Dylan was forever thankful to the Fates, who tied Emily's soul to his. His mate was breathtakingly beautiful, so much so that Dylan froze when he saw her. She hadn't noticed him yet, giving Dylan a few extra seconds to admire her.

No other being could compare to her. Her outfit was casual but chic. Emily wore a stylish white cardigan sweater with matching white converse highs. With the cardigan, she wore a tight red shirt that left just enough to the imagination. Her faded skinny jeans contrasted wonderfully with the white and red. They were cut subtly throughout her thighs and knees, exposing her soft skin.

Emily wore her long, dark brown hair down. Her makeup was light. Dylan appreciated the gloss she chose because the red colour enhanced her lips, overwhelming him with the yearning to kiss them.

Oh, how he desperately wanted to have a taste, but he needed to restrain himself. Humans weren't as forthcoming as every other mythical creature. If Emily were of his kind, they'd surely have passed first base by now, but since Emily was human and unaware of their bond, Dylan had to take things slow or risk losing her entirely.

Nonetheless, Dylan was in utter disbelief. How could he be so lucky to be blessed with such a stunning masterpiece?

Even though Dylan stood across the street, ways away, he could see his mate crystal clear. He saw her fidget with her hands while her eyes feverishly scanned her environment. She'd peak at her phone a few times, and once even tried to look busy on it. No matter what she did, Emily looked adorable in Dylan's eyes. From the subtle wrinkle of her nose to gently biting her lip nervously, she was captivating.

Dylan's feet began moving on their own, eager to eliminate the distance between the two. Emily didn't notice him until he crossed the street. Then, her brown eyes lit up when she saw him, and a big smile made its way on her face, one that nearly made Dylan lose his footing.

All of a sudden, Dylan was nervous. He began to feel insecure about his appearance. Was his black bomber a good idea, or should Dylan have gone with his windbreaker? Did he look like he was trying too hard or did he unintentionally come across as sloppy? The effects Emily had on him were mindblowing. All Emily had to do was look at him, and Dylan turned into a terrible mess of testosterone.

Dylan took a deep breath when he neared his mate, inhaling her sweet, alluring smell. Her scent calmed him enough for Dylan to get his act together just as he approached Emily.

"Hey," Dylan greeted, smiling up at Emily. It was times like these when Dylan wished he were taller.

Emily smiled down in return. "Hi."

The two smiled at each other, but the situation quickly turned awkward as neither of them knew what to say next. Emily glanced around nervously while her mind raced around in circles, trying to come up with something to say, but with no luck. She tried to buy some time by tucking a few loose strands behind her ear. Unfortunately, no amount of time would help.

Emily's mind was blank, as was Dylan's because he was too busy being awestruck by Emily. He could never get tired of looking at her but quickly realized that what he was doing may come across as creepy for his human mate. Dylan coughed in an attempt to hide the fact that he was flat-out gaping at Emily for the past solid minute. "We should probably head inside."

"Right," Emily answered, avoiding eye contact. She knew her mind would blank the moment she'd look into his breathtaking heterochromia eyes.

Instead, Emily followed Dylan inside Momo Sushi, where a hostess around their age greeted them and showed them to their table.

"I chose a place with a lot of witnesses for you," Dylan confessed once they sat down, trying to lighten the mood.

"Oh?" Emily tried her best to hide her smile. "Trying to make me feel safe now, but later, you'll take me to an empty alleyway and kill me."
