"Is this seat taken?"

"What do you think?" The sounds of skates slashing through ice and bodies banging into boards nearly drowned out Emily's voice, but luckily for her, she was talking to a werewolf.

Daisy shrugged her shoulders and sat in the empty seat beside Emily. "I just thought Lin would be here."

The way Daisy said Lin's name so casually startled Emily. "You're friends with Lin?" Emily couldn't hide how impressed she was by that fact.

"Acquaintances," Daisy corrected.

Emily shook her head, knowing full well, Lin would provide the same answer if she asked her about Dylan's childhood friend. "I haven't seen you in a while. How have you been?"

"Alright. How about you? Looks like you've been going to all of the games, hey?"

"Yeah." Emily sighed dreamily as she glanced down at Dylan on the rink. He still looked breathtaking from her point of view despite being decked out in his hockey gear. "His team has been doing really well so far in the season."

"I'm not surprised." Mainly because Daisy knew the Greater Vancouver Canadians had a werewolf and a sorcerer on their team, but Dylan, especially, was their strong suit. With his reflexes and enhanced senses, even if he was playing them down, it was nevertheless excruciatingly challenging for the offensive team to break through his defences.

Even though Emily remained oblivious to Dylan's species, she wasn't blind to his talents, staring at him in awe as if she were watching him play for the first time. She glanced back to Daisy, noticing how the blonde girl also appeared starstruck. "So, are you going to tell him how you feel?"

Daisy froze, and Emily wondered if she accidentally muffled her speech. But then Daisy chuckled her typical go-to obnoxious laugh that Emily was overly familiar with. "That must have taken everything out of you to say that."

Emily grinned back. "Actually, it didn't." Not when she knew where Dylan's feelings stood: with her. "So, are you?"

For a moment, Daisy looked taken back by Emily. "I could never win with you," she muttered incoherently under her breath before speaking up. "Not a chance, so stop asking me about it."

Emily reflected over the blonde girl's answer. It wasn't the fact that Daisy sounded annoyed; that much was a given. Rather, she appeared relinquished and it made Emily wonder. "Did you, by any chance, find your mate?"

Daisy's reply was instant. Emily barely got her question out before Daisy sharply answered: "No."

"Okay," Emily uttered slowly, not convinced, but she could see that Daisy didn't want to discuss the topic further, and so dropped it.

Instead, the two girls returned to watching Dylan's (and Theo's) game. It was surprisingly fun to cheer for Dylan and his team with Daisy. The two girls hollered and wooed together and even shared a few laughs. Daisy would occasionally flinch or grimace her or there, which she would attribute to delicate ears every time, and Emily never questioned her.

The game ended with the Canadians' victory, and Emily couldn't wait to relish in the triumph with her gifted boyfriend. Daisy and Emily walked over and stood near the locker rooms, and Emily was pleased that they managed to hold a civil conversation over random, useless topics. But as much as Emily appreciated Daisy's courtesy, she couldn't wait to see Dylan.

Emily's eyes noticed her boyfriend the moment he left the locker room. She was about to get up to go to him, but two unknown men intercepted Dylan. They appeared middle-aged, dressed in casual attire appropriate for that age group. Maybe Daisy recognized them. "Who are they?"
