"Here we are," Chase declared after taking Emily to the other side of the packhouse. "Her office is the first door on your right. Good luck." He didn't bother to take her all the way, turning on his heel and skipping back to the dining area, leaving Emily on her own to venture into the Alpha wolf's den.
Without a moment's waste, Emily knocked. "Um, hi. It's Emily. Is it cool if I come in?"
"Sure," Daisy called out from the inside, sounding unsurprised by Emily's presentation.
That was her cue, and Emily obeyed it immediately before hesitancy took the chance to intervene. She braced herself for the perfection that was Daisy Philips. What she hadn't expected was to be greeted by normalcy.
The lavish study aside, Daisy sat at her desk with an oversized blue hoodie, light grey joggers, and mismatched socks. There were a couple of stains scattered across her sweater from who knows where and her left toe was poking out. Her face was free from make-up and her blonde hair was tied in a messy bun, with an armada of strands set loose in many directions. All in all, Daisy looked just like Emily would if she were chilling at home, and Emily drew comfort from that fact.
Daisy, on the other hand, didn't. "Did you come here to flaunt?" She demanded, taking the offensive.
Such an assumption momentarily knocked Emily off her feet. "What? No," Emily instantly refuted. "I came to talk."
In response, Daisy's eyes narrowed. "What's with everyone and talking today? First Dylan and now you."
Daisy's sudden disclosure side-tracked Emily's intent. She couldn't stop jealousy from sprouting in her stomach before flaring up to her chest, rendering her mind to her emotions. "What did Dylan talk to you about?" Her voice came out sounding strained.
"He alluded to your insecurities of me," Daisy proclaimed in a taunting manner, causing Emily's stomach to drop. "Then he asked me if I had feelings for him." Her blue eyes watched Emily closely as she spoke, making it increasingly difficult for Emily to maintain what little composure she had.
She didn't even have time to process the fact that Dylan divulged Emily's concern about Daisy. The latter of Daisy's statement took priority. "He did?" Daisy nodded her head curtly and so many thoughts bombarded Emily afterwards, thoughts that made her irrational. Emily's mind went to the worst-case scenario, leaving a lump in her throat.
If the rational half of her brain were functional, Emily would've recalled all the hard-facts that proved Dylan's feelings for her. Unfortunately, that side was nonoperational at the moment, leaving Emily convinced that somehow Dylan was now dating Daisy. It didn't help that regardless of her lack of grooming, Daisy still looked gorgeous.
The blonde girl opted for silence, forcing Emily to press. "And what did you tell him?"
Daisy heard the human crystal clear despite her small voice. But instead of her usual, cocky smirk, that would put Emily on edge, Daisy's expression was stiff, lacking her overwhelming confidence. "I outright denied it," she replied and then cringed, "and made fun of him for it."
Emily was perplexed. "You did?"
"Yes," Daisy quipped, peeved.
Emily couldn't wrap her head around Daisy's decision. "Why? That would've been the perfect opportunity." They would've been alone and Daisy would've had all the time in the world to speak her feelings.
Daisy's mood spoiled further. "There will never be a perfect opportunity," she countered, ignoring how lame she sounded. She began speaking faster, all in one breath, forcing Emily to focus with all her might. "Besides, why are you so eager for me to tell Dylan how I feel about him? I bet you just want him to reject me sooner so you two can move on with your lives. Well, news flash for you, it's not happening."
