Emily's volleyball tournament had officially commenced. It was held in a massive gymnasium at the Student Recreation Centre of the University of British Columbia's Vancouver campus, located at the western tip of the Point Grey Penninsula. The gymnasium was divided into four separate courts, allowing multiple games to occur at the same time. Emily's team was warming up on the third court, preparing to play their first game out of four today and Dylan couldn't wait to watch them all and then some. This werewolf was not only ready to cheer on his mate but face off against his most formidable opponent: Lin.

"Wow, what are the odds that I'd run into you here," Dylan said cheekily. He didn't bother asking Emily's best friend for permission and sat beside her on the bleachers despite there being free spots elsewhere.

Lin blatantly scooted over, putting as much distance between the two of them as possible. She didn't bother hiding her distaste for Dylan, causing his smile to drop. He glanced around the gymnasium as his mind scrambled for something to say. At one point, his eyes met with Emily's and the two waved at each other. Seeing Emily reminded Dylan why he was sitting with the heartless human in the first place. "So, which team are you cheering for?"

"Are you trying to be funny?" Lin asked rhetorically, without looking in Dylan's direction. She waved at Emily as well, and Emily frowned at the sight of Dylan and Lin together. Emily looked back at Dylan. He could clearly see the worry in her eyes and read her lips perfectly as she mouthed 'good luck' to him.

Dylan glanced back at his mate's best friend, wondering if the human even knows how to smile. "The opponent then?"

Lin appeared to be immune to Dylan's humour. In fact, Dylan's smile seemed to have the opposite effect on her. She appeared utterly unimpressed and gave Dylan the kind of look his mother would give him if he disappointed her. In all his years, Dylan never thought he'd see the day when he was intimidated by a human. Yet here he was, barely able to maintain eye contact with Lin who didn't bother replying to Dylan's question. She gave him the cold shoulder and proceeded to watch the start of Emily's first game of the tournament. Dylan wanted to do the same, but the awkward tension he felt towards Emily's best friend was making it hard for him to focus.

Fresh out of ideas, Dylan turned to his phone for advice from his group chat.

Werewolf 09:15 AM: So far, no luck -_-

Thankfully Dylan's friends were on standby.

Sorceror 09:16 AM: I can see if my grandma has any love potions lying around!

Kitsune 09:16 AM: Please don't make me block you temporarily, Theo. I don't want to be an enforcer.

Sorceror 09:17 AM: There's no need for that. I got our homeboy covered.

Dylan was about to type 'no' with an overabundant amount of letter o's but Hiroko replied before he could begin his endeavour.

Kitsune 09:18 AM: Strike 1

Sorcerer 09:18 AM: >:O

Kitsune 09:19 AM: You're lucky Bills is still asleep. There'd be no chances with her.

Kitsune 09:20 AM: And Dylan, don't spend all your time hiding behind your phone. Talk to her! How hard can it be to entertain one human?

Werewolf 09:20 AM: Crazy hard :'(

Kitsune 09:20 AM: Look for common interests.

Sorcerer 09:21 AM: Or talk about the weather XD

Kitsune 09:21 AM: Strike 2. Next one and you're blocked for the day.

Sorcerer 09:21 AM: =,<
