Why do we shed tears?
A question as old as time,
A mystery that lingers,
A silent, soulful rhyme.

Is it sadness that we feel?
A heavy heart, a mournful scene?
Or frustration, anger's sting,
A tempest raging within?

Perhaps it's fear, a chilling dread,
A threat to all we hold so dear.
Or simply a release, a catharsis,
A cleansing of the soul, so clear.

Do tears showcase our weaknesses?
Or strength, a courage to endure?
A vulnerability, a humanness,
That makes us whole, forever pure.

Do tears heal like a gentle balm,
A soothing salve for wounded hearts?
A cleansing rain, a calming charm,
That eases pain, where darkness starts.

Why do we shed tears?
A question without a simple why.
For tears are complex, a myriad of fears,
A symphony of joy and sigh.
