Chapter 3

Arin's POV

Thankfully, I woke up first before Hope did. I untangle myself from Hope and kisses her forehead before leaving her room. I walk to my room and went to get change. I needed to know why there were mythical creatures coming back to life and hunting Landon.

Oh yeah, Landon. After Hope explained everything, I decided that I should protect him as well even if I don't like him as much for taking a precious artifact and stealing things from my uncle's library.

"Hey Arin, good morning", I heard Dorian and turned around. "Morning Dorian, don't you have a class to teach?", I asked and he nods. "I do, I needed my file. What are you doing here?", he asked as he picked up his file from the table. "I needed to find more about the knife and learn about mythical creatures, not that I know all of it already but you know just incase another dragon comes along", I answered and he chuckled.

"Yeah, okay. Umm, maybe you should ask Ric. He's doing the same thing about the knife", he informed and I nod, thanking him. I took the books I needed and walk to the headmasters office. I knock on the door and he looked up from the book.

"Arin, hey. Good, I was gonna look for you", he motioned me to come in. "Right, Dorian said you needed help with the knife so I figured I'd help", I state and put the books on his table. "So, what did you find?", he asked me. "Oh, umm. I was reading on the myths and legends on France and found that the knife was mentioned briefly in 14th Century. There was a legend that said a gargoyle, created by witches were to protect it from travelers. The knife was sacred to a coven therefore, needing a protector. Plus, Gargoyles are meant to scare people away by their demon looking features and red eyes", I replied, stating all the facts I've read so far.

"Great. I found something too and it's in Ghoulish", he pushed the book forward to me so I can read it. "I hate Ghoulish", he muttered under his breath. I laugh a little and read it. "It says that the knife was sacred to many rituals and was hidden deep in the forest so that the rituals could be perform in secret. The knife could also kill werewolves which were the most common creatures in their time. Apparently, the knife's protector was gargoyles which were made by witches. It also says that travelers would come and try to take it but they would be killed by the vicious gargoyle", I read through the page then flipped forward but found nothing else.

I took one if the books I borrowed and flipped to the gargoyle page. "To kill it, you must stab it repeatedly? Well, that's helpful", I toss the book in the table and slumped on the chair. "At least we know our next monster", Alaric says and I shrugged.

"I also need a favour to ask you", he pleaded with his eyes. "Please, don't say take care of the twins because the last time I did that, it turn into a fight", I huffed and he chuckled. "No, no, I just need you to be in charge of the school with me today. Of course, I'll have Emma to help but Dorian is out and I think we can get pass you being a student to maybe becoming a teacher? If you want too", he explained and offered.

"Wait, really? You think I could be a teacher?", I asked him and he smiled at me. "Of course, Arin. I already asked you dad and he seems to be okay with it", he puased. "Let me guess, he said I could do whatever I want?", I asked and he nods.

"Yeah, sometimes I forget you're older than all of us", he pointed out, making me chuckle. "Well, I did die at 17 so, I will forever will look like a teenager to you adults", I state my case and he chuckled at me. "So, are you interested?", he asked, getting back to the topic and I nod. "Yeah, for sure", I agreed and he went over to pat my back.

"Great, you'll start next week. Right now, I need to settle community services. Help Emma out, will you?", he instructed and I nod. I left his office and went to the guidance councillor's office. I knock on it softly and heard a faint 'Come in'. "Hey Emma, I just wanted to say that Alaric kinda asked me if you needed help", I told her and watched her smile.
