Chapter 7

"Guys, I don't know what to tell you. He was wearing a mask, a hoody and sweatpants. He was maybe just shorter than you Frank and I recognise his voice but I can't seem to put a face to it." Joe was a little disappointed in himself. Not remembering his attacker? How was he even a detective when he couldn't even remember someone he recognised. Nancy grabbed Joe's hand reassuringly.

"It's fine Joe, we'll find him eventually. I know for a fact this one won't sleep until he figures it out," she pokes Frank in the chest.

"Neither will you. I know you, you won't let this rest until it's done." Frank wrapped his arm around Nancy's shoulders and kisses her forehead.

"Is anyone else confused as to what's happening here? No just me? Ok," Joe points to the couple and they explain what happened from when Joe dropped Frank off at Nancy's to now. Joe couldn't be more excited. A 'finally' escaped his lips and the family laughed. "So give me the down low, I know you two have been doing everything you could while I was out."

"Well it was mostly Miss Nancy Drew here," Nancy punches Frank's chest lightly, "she did most of it. We can't really find anything but having you awake finally will help us with a few burning questions."

A few questions and a few chocolate puddings (all of which were eaten by Joe brought by the pretty nurse, Joe had found she had a boyfriend but that didn't stop him from flirting). By the end of the day, the Hardy's and Nancy were finally kicked out of the hospital room, it was getting late and Joe needed his rest. Piling out, one by one, they all discussed the day events. Nancy playing with the pull string of Frank's jumper with one hand and playing with his hand with the other suddenly got a realisation.

"Fenton, Laura. I never welcomed you back to Chicago! Let's go out for dinner and a movie tonight. It'll give us a break from everything," Fenton was the first to readily agree. It would be the first outing as a couple and the first outing the Hardy Parents would be Nancy's in-laws.

In the small corner, neither couple saw the disgust face of Ned Nickerson in the small corner of the waiting room. The face of disgust because his plan didn't work, if anything it got the couple closer. They were going out for dinner AND a movie? They had only been together for two days but it had felt to Ned that he was the third wheel in a long distance relationship between Frank and Nancy. The presents they would send each other birthdays and anniversaries. The times they would drop everything for each other, whenever the other was in town, the times they would spend hours on the phone when the other was supposed to be working on a case. Ned was losing his marbles. They have loved each other for years and the case in Egypt pushed them even closer. He knew something had happened but he didn't know what, Nance didn't say anything about the case. She would talk for hours on end about her cases but absolutely nothing about this one and he had no idea why but he knew it had something to do with that ass nugget. His fuse was getting shorter and shorter but Nancy Drew will come running back to him. Hopefully sooner than later.

Ned got up, hid his gun under his hoody and slowly followed the Hardy's out of the hospital parking lot. He could see Nancy holding onto Frank's arm. It was disgusting. How could she fall for that ass nugget. What happened in Egypt? What made Ned loose all control?
