Chapter 8

4 months previously

'Ring Ring' by ABBA wakes Nancy up from her peaceful slumber. Groaning she looks at the caller ID and sees a photo of her and Frank Hardy. She hadn't talked to him for a couple of weeks and was glad for the early wake-up call. A husky 'hello' escaped her lips.

"Hi Nance, sorry for waking you up. I know it's Saturday but I've got a favour to ask you." Frank sounded chirpier than ever.

"Yeah what's up," Nancy sat up in her bed with her against the headrest. Hearing Frank's calm voice calmed her nerves and the anxiety she had been feeling the past couple of days at work.

"Would you like to come to Egypt with Joe and myself for a case? We will need to go undercover and I would need you to be my undercover wife? You know me better than anyone and I trust you more than anyone. Joe is talking to Bess as we speak, I don't know how long it will take and you can say.."

Nancy interrupts him, "yes". She looks at Ned as she's saying this. Deep down she knew she should have discussed with Ned first but Nancy wanted so badly to see Frank again, to be with him. Nancy loved spending time with Frank, any opportunity she could take to spend as much time with him like they did in the old times when they were teenagers. "When did you want me there? Today? Tomorrow?" Nancy asked eagerly.

"Well we don't have to fly out from here until Monday," Frank scratched the back of his neck. Nancy got out go her bed and grabbed her emergency suitcase and started getting into her airport clothes. Ned looked at her funny but realised what was happening.

"I've got my suitcase and I'm leaving for the airport now. I'll message you the details," at that she hung up the phone and left for her car. Nancy figured she'd get something to eat there. She could hear Ned groggily following behind her, tripping over a few things on the way out of their bedroom.

"Where are you going now? Was that Frank I heard on the line?" He asked, a little agitated Nancy noted.

"Yeah it was Frank. He's got a case over in Egypt and asked if I could tag along for some undercover work. I've got to be there ASAP. I don't know when I'll be back but I'll message you when I land in New York. Bye" without another thought she left. Ned was a little more than agitated by this point. He was angry. Nancy, who was supposed to be his girlfriend, just upped and left without a second thought. Without even a kiss goodbye either. Today was supposed to be their 7 year anniversary.

3 hours later and Nancy was in New York. She took her suitcase and wheeled it out to the lounge not expecting Frank to be there yet, he had a few things to do but was definitely picking her up. Nancy looked up for a seat when she saw the familiar black hair, blue eyes and lean figure in a trench coat. Frank was holding a large bouquet of purple roses and a sign saying Nancy in bold letters.

"FRANK!" She screams, runs and jumps onto him with her legs around his waist. They never usually did this but she thought it better to start the undercover work now. Nancy kissed him passionately, Frank was a little surprised at first but slowly wound his hands into her hair. Secretly, Nancy wanted to say she was starting her undercover work but she has wanted to kiss Frank like this for months. They finally parted and looked at each not saying anything but looking at each others eyes. They hadn't seen each other in months and the last time they had spoken Frank broke up with Callie and Nancy was suspicious of Ned cheating on her. They both missed the touch of each other. Nancy dropped down to her feet and hugged him again.

The next couple of days was going over the case and getting prepared for any situation that would be thrown at them. Finally it came time to board the flight to Eygpt, the two 'couples' wearing wedding rings and looking giddy. To Frank and Nancy it was natural for them to act as a couple, for Joe and Bess it was a little hard but they got threw it.

A couple of days had passed and they had an afternoon to themselves. It was time for everyone to relax before they were going out for dinner. Nancy hadn't heard a word from Ned in a day and a half, no message, missed calls or emails. 

"That's strange," Nancy spoke to herself. Frank who was sitting next to her on the couch looked at her quizzically. 

"What's up?" Not wanting to pry, he knew she would tell her sooner than later, he also didn't like it when she tried to solve puzzles without him. Two heads were better than, especially when those two heads were Nancy Drew and Frank Hardy.

"It's probably nothing. I just need to call Ned." All Frank could do was listen to Nancy's side of the phone call. Eventually she looked at Frank, thinking of his ex-girlfriend, replied "This is Callie Shaw speaking. I was wondering if, Nancy Drew was there?" Frank perked up. He would have to ask her when she was off the phone. Breathing a sigh of relief when she hung the phone. Nancy had the feeling but didn't want to believe it. She sat in her own thoughts, not knowing what to do. Does she cry? Deep down she knew he was cheating on her but she didn't think he would go behind her back and actually do it and to tell a blatant lie like moving to New York.

Nancy didn't know what came over her. She turns to Frank and smiles. She grabs his arm and wraps it around her shoulders and leans into him. Frank knew now not to ask any questions but to hold her and make sure she was safe.

Frank walked Nancy to bed, making sure she had a shower and brushed her teeth. He didn't want to leave her alone but he knew Nancy needed the privacy. Frank wished he could do more but without knowing exactly what happened he couldn't. He slid into the bed next to her, Nancy sat up and looked at Frank deep in his eyes. Nancy was full aware of what she was doing and didn't feel any remorse about it. She slowly moved in and caught Frank off guard. She parted with his lips for few seconds before Frank slammed his lips against hers again, this time with more passion. All the amped up sexual tension between the two the past couple of days came tumbling forward and crashing down. The passion that the two had felt for each other led up to this moment and the only thing the couple could focus on was each other.
