47. Revelations

Ray's friend is weird. He seems uneasy. And the scent in the air is also all over him. I don't trust him.

Franck told me that he was always like that. Not very confident, shy, etc. But that thing is not shyness. He hides something from us for sure...

And there's his girlfriend... Fuck she's tiring... She moves everywhere, is super energetic and talks non-stop. And I thought I was hyperactive...

To end up there's Ray. She hasn't woke up since we got here (approximately 12 hours). She moves a bit in her sleep but nothing more. She didn't open her eyes or said a word. I'm worried. Franck said that it's due to the shock of being in a new environment or something like that. But I see that he's worried for her too.

-She will wake up soon ! We just need to be patient.

Is his favorite sentence since we're here.

Talking about that, this place is quite strange. Most of the doors there are boarded up and I feel like our "host" hides his real identity. I'm gonna discover what's going on here.

Maybe I forgot to mention Arthur. Of course, I don't like him more than before but he thinks that Eddie (the one who took us in) is hiding something too. He said he'll help me till Ray wakes up. That makes us allies for the time being.

Apart from that, nothing happens. I stay beside Ray most of the time. I don't want to leave her alone with this Eddie guy around.

24 hours later...

Rachel moves more and more. Then suddenly, she shoots her eyes wide open and looks at me. She is scared at first. Then she calms down and sighs :

-Why are you the one who always save me ?

I smile slightly and declare :

-I think I already told you. I'm like Batman !

She burst out laughing and gets her arms around me tightly.

-You know that I love you ?

-Yes...

After a moment of snuggles, I ask :

-You want me to go and warn the others ?

But she doesn't reply and smell the air.

-Do you know where this is coming from ?

-This what ?

-The smell.

-Yeah, it comes from Eddie.

Ray seems shock for a moment. She gets up slowly.

-I'm going to talk to him. I need to know something.

-Be careful around Arthur. He might jump onto you if he sees you are awake.

She nods and gets out of her improvised room. I follow her from a distance.

Ray's POV :

I walk slowly. I don't want to confirm what I think is going on here.

-Rachel ? You're awake ?

Art jumps onto me, as Zack predicted it.

-Yes I'm awake Art. Now get off me, it's awkward.

He makes me turn around in the air. So embarrassing...

-I'm so happy ! You can't know how much I waited for you to wake up ! You made us so scared !

-I know... I'm alright now though. So noneed to be worried anymore. Can you put me on the ground, you'd be nice.

He obeys and I stretch up.

-You want something ? Food ? Drinks ? Maybe me ?

I laugh and he seems disappointed.

-Sorry, I'm already taken ! Maybe next time !

I leave him to his despair and inspect this "new home". A lot of boarded up doors, the rest of the furniture being for the bare minimum.

-Looks like a military bunker.

-Yes... It's because... It's not... well furnished yet but...

Eddie sighs. I turn around to see his face. He looks guilty and constantly dodges my glances.

-Ed, tell me what you're hiding.

He is full of this bitter-sweet smell that made me hurt my head.

-I...don't know what you're t-t-alking about. I have nothing to h-h-hide...

Ok, secrets start to really annoy me now.

-Tell me just one thing then. Do you know someone called Gray ?

He seems frozen. Then, slowly recovering from the surprise, he asks :

-Gray like Abraham Gray ?

-I don't know, probably. He's tall, square-cut and has greying hair.

-Where did you meet him ?

-I just heard of him. Who is he exactly ? A dealer ? A killer ? A mobster ? 

-Worse...

I wait for his answer, out of breath.

-So..., I say in a trembling voice.

-It's my father.

Wow, three chapters in one day ? Must be snowing outside. Anyways I finally got that lazy ass of mine to work on this so I hope you're happy ^^'
