The children met the professor. He was nothing like the children imagined. He was a kind and jolly fellow. Lucy was especially fond of him and even called him "old dear". The children were then let to a room to hang out as Mrs. McGregor went downstairs to prepare supper. The children sat down down as they thought of something to do to pass the time.
"I spy..... With my little eye..... Something that's green!" Lucy cited. Her and Leah were playing 'I spy' together.
"Hmm..... " Leah tapped her chin. She looked around the room.
"Is it Susan's skirt?"
"Nope!"
"Is it Peter's shirt?"
"No!"
"Is it......" Leah trailed off as she glanced at Edmond, who somehow managed to get himself underneath an arm chair.
"Is it Edmond's shirt?" Leah asked. This time, Lucy smiled.
"Ding ding ding ding! You're correct!"
Leah gave Lucy a grin.
"Now it's your turn Peter!" Lucy announced.
Peter, on the other hand, was bored out of his mind.
"Can we play something else?" He groaned. "I'm bored."
"Sure! What would you like to play?" Lucy asked politely. She was always a polite little girl.
"Let's play hide and seek!" Peter suggested.
"B.... But.... " Leah begin to protest. "What about Mrs. McGregor? She'll get mad if we wander around the house without permission!"
"Oh don't worry, we'll be back before supper. I promise." Peter replied confidently.
Leah gave him a nod. Noticing Edmond still looking bored as he fumbled with the chair, she ushered him to join them. Grumbling his complaints, he joined in. Leah laughed as Peter volunteered to be 'it'.
"One, two, three....." Peter counted as all of them ran off into different directions. Leah and Lucy giggled. They had agreed on hiding together. They headed upstairs as Peter's voice became more distance.
"Where should we hide?" Lucy whispered nervously. All the places they looked were either taken by Edmond or Susan. Running out of time, they decided to hide inside of a peculiar looking wardrobe. Once inside, the girls stiffled their giggles as they waited for Peter to find them. Suddenly, out of nowhere, the girls felt chills behind their back. Curious, they headed further back the wardrobe to see what it was that give them goosebumps. They had to swallow a gasp as their feet crunched on the snowy ground beneath them.
"Another world behind the wardrobe?" Lucy asked in bewilderment. " Cool"
"I.... Think we should head back..... Maybe we could explore with the others after they find us?" Leah suggested. She didn't want to get in trouble. But before she had time to say anything else Lucy was already pulling her away.
"Don't be a party pooper! C'mon! It'll be fun!" Lucy laughed as Leah trailed behind.
I hope we don't get in trouble for this, Leah thought.
Out of her excitement, Lucy had ran into someone as all the parcels and items fell out of that person's hands.
"Ouch!" They both cried in unison. Leah ran over to check on Lucy to see if she's alright when she gasped in surprise. The person Lucy had accidentally ran over had a pair of ram's horn on his head. He wore no clothing except a red scarf over his neck. His bottom half resemble that of a goat's legs.
"What are you?" Leah tried to hide the rudeness in her voice.
The other person was equally surprised.
"A.... Are you the daughters of Eve?" He asked.
Lucy rubbed her head as she groaned.
"What are you talking about?" She sat up and asked.
"I said, are you daughters of Eve?" He repeated his question.
The girls looked at each other in confusion.
"Uh..... I guess?" After a while, Lucy finally answered.
"But what are you?" Leah asked curiously. "I know you're not human. That's for sure."
The other person let out a chuckle.
"My name is Mr. Tumnus. I'm a faun." He answered with a bow. "What might your names be, daughters of Eve?"
"I'm Lucy." Lucy begin." And this is Leah."
"Nice to meet you!" Leah said cheerfully.
Lucy let out a gasp."Oh dear! I forgot I had accidentally bumped you and you had dropped all of your things! I'm sorry! Let me help you pick them up!" Lucy them bend down to pick everything up.
Mr. Tumnus waved it away as he smiled. "Don't worry, I'll pick them up. Meanwhile, it is close to tea time, want to come to my house and have some tea together? You must be cold in that strange clothing of yours!"
Leah and Lucy had only their summer clothing on so the sound of warm, welcoming hot tea and fireplace seems cozy. Leah, however, pulled back.
"I'm sorry. I must go." She said. "My parents warned me against going to stranger's house. I must head back. Lucy, you should too." She said as she tried to pull Lucy back to the direction they came from.
"But....." Lucy protested. "Mr. Tumnus seems like such a friendly person. He won't harm me!"
Leah sighed. "If you want to stay, it's your choice. But I'll head back. Your sister and brothers probably worried about you."
Lucy stubbornly turned her down. She shook her head sadly and headed back to the wardrobe. However, she felt uneasy inside. So she went back to get Lucy. To her horror, Lucy was already gone with Mr. Tumnus to his home. In a panic, Leah quickly rushed out of the wardrobe and called to her siblings for help.
"Susan, Peter, and Edmond! I need your help immediately! It's about Lucy!"
