The next morning, Susan arose from her dreamless sleep and saw Leah and Edmond cuddling together, still sleeping soundly. She excitedly nudged Peter awake as she motioned for him to be quiet and watch. Peter rubbed the sleep away from his eye as he focused. Then he grinned at Susan as well.
Maybe it's Susan's giggle or maybe Leah's finally waking up. But either way she opened her dark orbs. She was wondering what was happening when she realized what had happened last night. Edmond's body was still pretty close to hers as he snored softly. Leah's face was a deep red as she watched Peter and Susan snickered. At last, Edmond awoke from his slumber.
"It's too early to be up!" He groaned. But as he slowly opened his eyes he realized the reason of his siblings' laughter and Leah's embarrassment.
"Oh I'm so sorry!" Edmond cried as he unwrapped Leah. Leah looked away as she mumbled something.
"Oh you're welcome......" Edmond seemed to hear what she said. He also looked away with ears burning like they're on fire.
Leah glared at the two older Pevensies, who are now on the ground laughing their heads off.
"Don't you think this is enough, Peter and Susan?" Leah asked, a little irritated.
Both Peter and Susan finally eased their laughter as they struggled to stand up. They wiped tears away from their eyes as Peter managed to speak. "Seriously, you two looked so cute huddled together. Maybe you should start dating now."
Leah and Edmond gave him a "You'd-better-shut-up-or-die" kind of look before picking up their things. Peter and Susan had finally recovered from their hysterical laughter and continued on their way.
"But before we go," Peter stopped everyone. "We should eat something before we resume. It's best for our bodies."
Everyone nodded in agreement as they sat down in a circle and brought out the sac Mrs. Beaver had packed for them the night before. To their surprise, the food not only still felt warm to the touch, the flavor was still fresh.
"I wonder how those Narnians store their food." Leah wondered out loud. "It isn't frozen from the low temperature from the night before."
Peter nodded his agreement. "Perhaps we have a lot to learn about this strange kingdom."
Just then, the sound of the sleigh could be heard. All of the children listened in alarm. Mr. Beaver had warned them about how the White Witch liked to patrol the area on her sleigh. Edmond protectively gathered Leah behind him as she gripped his sleeve in fear.
When the sounds of sleigh and the hooves came closer, Peter grabbed a stick from nearby as a protection against whatever that they may encounter. When the sleigh came in sight, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
"Santa Claus?!" Leah exclaimed.
"Saint Nicolas?" The Pevensie children had a look of bewilderment on their face.
The man in red simply "ho ho ho" at them. He brought along with him a mysterious sac as well.
"Well, I suppose that I'm Saint Nicolas and Santa Claus in your world, but here I go by Father Christmas." The large man boomed with his loud voice.
The children relaxed and greeted Father Christmas with a smile.
"I have a question." Edmond asked. "It isn't Christmas so why are you here?"
Father Christmas simply laughed his jolly laugh and explained.
"You see, I only come when winter arrives. But ever since the White Witch's reign held a tight grip on the weather, I cannot travel over to give little children gifts. But it seems to me that her power is weakening. Or I would not be here! Ho ho ho! Aslan is here!"
Aslan...... That name again. Who is he? Leah wondered. But before she had more time to process it all Father Christmas had pulled the supposedly gift bag from his sleigh.
"Fear not, I had brought you children some presents on account of Aslan's requests!" He smiled.
Walking over to Peter, he pulled out a great sword as he present it to Peter.
"You, will be King Peter the Magnificent. For you have shown great courage and good leadership to your younger siblings. Thus you shall be the greatest of them all."
Father Christmas tapped both side of Peter's shoulders with the sword as if he's knighting Peter. But in reality, we were witnessing the coronation of Narnia's future king.
Next, he walked over to Susan and gave her a set of arrows and a bow along with a horn. To her, he said:
"You, my dear, will be Queen Susan the Gentle. You will wield the bow and arrow in times of need. But woman shall not fight in battle. For women turn the battlefield uglier than it already is. The horn is for you to use when an immediate aid is needed. If you use it wisely, you shall receive what you seek."
Susan nodded solomnly. Next, he walked over to Edmond and gave him a sword that is similar to Peter's but somehow different.
"You, my child, shall be King Edmond the Just. You will fight alongside of your brother and assist him in battle. You have shown great bravery, and I have no doubt that you would do the same on battlefield."
Finally, turning to me, he brought out a simple magical wand for me to use.
"Most loved child. You will be called Queen Leah the Wise. You will reign over the kingdom with wisdom and love. You, alongside with King Edmond the Just will be great rulers for Narnia. Your wisdom and his justice will bring Narnia great times of peace. This wand presented to you is for anything you wish. But beware. If the magic is used selfishly or it is being used unwisely, it'll result in destruction. Think carefully before you use. Use it with care."
Leah curtsied and smiled. She was given a very big responsibility. But she's not going to give in to the evil forces they'll face in the future.
Father Christmas had a look of sadness about him. Taking out the last bit of his presents, he declared.
"This, I entrust upon you, King Peter the Magnificent. It is for your sister Queen Lucy the Valiant. For she had been fighting bravely against her battle with the White Witch. When you saved her, give these to her."
He had put something in Peter's hands.
"It is a healing cordial and a small dagger. One drop of the cordial made from the fire flower could cure anything. The dagger however, is meant for protection. She is never to be in a battlefield. The dagger is for self defense only."
Peter nodded seriously. The atmosphere is almost too solumn to be joking around. Just then, Father Christmas laughed.
"Now who's ready for some hot chocolate?"
He brought out five cups of hot chocolate and handed each one of the children a cup. Then he hopped on his sleigh and laughed away.
We stared at each other as we pondered what Father Christmas said to each one of us. We sat together in a circle as we consumed our warm beverages while each lost in their own thoughts.
