The world was strange. How it shifted and changed ever so frequently. Once, this place would've been grown over by fresh greenery, tall oaks and willows reaching into the sky, their beauty embodying the very essence of magic. The bark would glow in the evenings, enchanted by a divine aura, creatures being drawn to their never ending warmth.

Now, the trees sang a quiet song, as if forgetting their true nature. Concrete now roamed the land, solidifying the humans claim.

Val had never disliked man, though he never understood their persistence in the craft of remodelling. Though he reminded himself quickly the elves were not much different, just rather full of themselves and their superiority. He wondered, were there any elves left? What of the citadels hidden behind protective veils, hiding them from the peering gaze of humans?

It wasn't necessarily the fact that his kind was possibly extinct that overall bothered him, only the thought of his younger brother being lost in the world without him.

"Are you alright?" He heard the young troll hunters voice rekindle his mind from his deepest thoughts.

He turned his eyes to the boy across from him, blinking away his momentary confusion, realizing he'd been staring out the restaurant window for longer than he'd expected to be.

"Fine." He smiled softly. "Just lost in thought." He admitted.

Jim had brought the wizard into Arcadia Oaks to finally reintroduce him into the human world. With a simple spell, he altered his appearance to be less shocking, his usual desaturated dark skin turning into a caramel tan, his strikingly vivid sapphire eyes changing to be a calming grey-blue. Though he appeared human, his entrancing elven appeal still caught the eye of curious individuals. Fitted into a t-shirt and darkly coloured jeans that struggled to fit his tall frame, he now seemed to fit decently into the modern world that presented itself to him.

They sat patiently in the restaurant, waiting for the rest of the homosapiens side of the troll hunters team to greet them. He looked down at the mug between his hands, the strange smell that sank slowly upwards caught him by surprise. Jim had previously called it coffee. He wasn't entirely sure what it was. He wasn't entirely sure if he wanted to drink it.

"So, how are you.... feeling?"

Turning his attention back onto the peculiar teenager, he rose a brow.

Jim cleared his throat, reformulating his inquiry. "I mean, after fighting... Kvothe right after regaining some of your health... Are you feeling okay?"

He could feel the awkwardness practically radiating off of the young man. It made a smirk pull at his lips. "You need not worry about me. I'm quite alright." He assured him, his eyes turning to the troll hunters friends that now came barreling through the restaurant door.

The fair Claire sneezed and coughed as she clambered in next to Jim, Toby pushing onto the booth, accidentally knocking him.

"Sorry!" He apologized quickly, his smile radiant as he excitedly slammed down a book on the table top.

He nodded in response, acknowledging his apology, looking to Claire. Her eyes were puffy and she wiped her nose absentmindedly. He noted she was ill, but something inked him. There was something that itched at his mind.
