Ace walks between the buildings where there are large gaps for people her size. Some people in their apartments pop out for a short second to wave at the large predator. Mostly everyone on this street knows her well enough. Some are so relaxed around her they let their child's hang around her.
Ace, though, is always careful of where she steps. She doesn't want anyone getting hurt around her not just because she's big but she can be a little clumsy and hyperactive for no reason.
"Hello, Ace."
"Heya, Ace!"
"Long time no see!"
Several people greeted her in many different ways. Ace waved every now and then, but her main focus was on the children running at feet or jumping to grab the tiger's tail.
"Children!!!" Mr. Grans yelled from his back porch. "She's trying not to hurt any of you and you're making it harder for her than it should be!!"
Ace smiled and turn back to the rat hybrid. "It's all right, Mr. Grans. As long as they don't get in front of me, I should be fine."
The deeper Ace went into the city, the more children and friendly faces she saw. None hesitating to say hi or even come out and talk. Ace had to keep the chatter short. She had a friend to go see.
Jenna has been Ace's best friend since the beginning. Since their granddads worked, and still do, together, both families are like one big family except that both live very different lives. Predators, especially large ones, had a reputation for doing terrible things many years ago. Arthur, Ace's grandfather, wanted to change that perspective and teamed up with Shane, a mouse with brains and strength.
Together the two were unstoppable in the business world and real estate. Breaking down old hotels to build newer ones that suit all sides of the dice.
Now Ace's father and Jenna's father carry that legacy today. And that Legacy will pass onto them.
Ace stopped at a large red-bricked home apartment, but the whole building was owned by one family.
Ace gently rapped on the house and waited patiently. She checked her watch every now and then, it's a force of habit though, she's in no rush really.
The tiger knocked on the roof again. When no one came out onto the balcony, Ace bent down and took a peek in the window. She peeked into the large dark room, seeing a bed with a lump in the sheets.
Ace rolls her eyes. "Of course, she's still in bed."
She eyes the french double doors and a wicked smirk crosses the tiger's face. Ace uses her pinky finger to push down on the handle then pushes the doors open. Her hand easily slides into the open gap.
Her fingers reach over the small lump and pull back the sheets. A tiny human-hybrid lays in that small bed. Bare skinned ears sit on top of the brunette's heads and a thin little hairless tail pokes out at the tailbone.
Jenna was one of the smallest hybrids on earth. She was a mouse hybrid and yet her best friend was one of the most, if not the most, dangerous predators on earth. Jenna only stood at seven inches tall while Ace stood at a whopping eight-foot four-inches tall. And Jenna compared to an elephant is more jaw dropping in size.
Ace's tongue poked out from the corner of her mouth as she scooped up her best friend from the bed. She smiled with satisfaction when she pulled the mouse through the doorway
The tiger licked her lips and opened her jaws wide, letting the pink wet tongue drop out. She held her friend close enough her face to see the hot breath brush through Jenna's hair.
The odd feeling of being breathed on roused Jenna from her slumber. When the mouse opened her eyes, the jaws of death were waiting for her. That's what other people would say, but not Jenna. She was too tired to react to her best friend who was only teasing the mouse.
Jenna simply rolled over to face away from Ace and tried to go back to sleep.
Ace saw this huffed like a four year old. "Really? I come all the way here and all you do is roll over and fall back asleep?"
"Yeah," Jenna moaned.
Ace was disappointed in the fact that she didn't get a proper reaction from her friend. Usually Jenna would be terrified, but in the last two years or so things haven't working out as well as they used to.
Jenna and Ace were completely different spectrums in many things other than size. Ace struggled in school, but she never failed a class. To Jenna, though, if she got something other than a hundred, she'd flip a table if she could.
And ever since Jenna has been in college and Ace dropping out of college, things have been odd with them lately.
"So," Ace asked. "How have you been?"
Jenna groaned reply.
"Yeah, college has been eating away at you hasn't it."
All the mouse could do was nod. She was exhausted. Signing up for summer classes was not the best idea.
"I can kind of relate. Joey and I had a late night stream last night. Did you watch it? We're were getting our butts handed to us by Bigfoot the entire time. It was fun." Ace explained like a five year old was explaining their favorite kids show to a rocket scientist.
That's what it felt for Ace in any given situation with Jenna. Sometimes Ace just felt like Jenna tolerated her because their fathers work together. Jenna doesn't know how many times she's had to tell Ace that she's not a bother or annoying or being a pest.
Jenna has always been there for Ace and she knows better than anyone that Ace struggles with mental disorders. The tiger can't help with some of the things she does and Jenna understands that completely.
"Any-any way. I brought you a mini cinnamon roll." Ace stuttered while holding up a brown bag.
That's what made Jenna's little ears perk up. She loved cinnamon rolls. The girl would die for one actually. She'd rage wars against countries, plants, galaxies even, to get a cinnamon roll.
Jenna sat up and stretched out her tight and tired body. "You know exactly what to bring to make me feel better don't you, Grace." She said with a smile.
Ace smile, ignoring that fact that Jenna used her real name, and set the mouse down on her shoulder.
The tiger pulled out a small cinnamon roll and tore a fourth of it off and handed it to her best friend.
They two ate while listening to the small city's traffic.
Ace popped in the last cinnamon and looked at Jenna. "What do you wanna do today?"
Jenna's face was already full on cinnamon roll, but she replied anyway. "Something fun."
Ace liked the sound of that.
