Ethan
It was Friday morning and was looking forward to heading into the office today. I hadn’t seen Mia since the end of the day on Wednesday, due to being called out to meetings with a client yesterday.
I felt bad leaving her in only her second day, but I couldn’t get out of the meetings, and I knew she would be in safe hands with Catherine.Fortunately, Greyson had been called away on business, so he still hadn’t been to the office to see her without me there. I found myself so protective of this woman already.
I think back to how close we were to kissing on Wednesday morning, before the sneezing fit, which was very embarrassing. God knows how Mia must have felt, but it was nice knowing that she was attracted to me. It gave me some hope.
I parked my car and decided to head to the coffee shop where we had our first official meeting on Tuesday and grab her the same drink that she ordered. Always careful to make an impression with thoughtful little treats every once in a while.
“Good morning, Mia.” I walk over to her desk to greet her and hand over her coffee.
“Good morning, Mr Jones. Oh, thank you. You didn't have to do that.” She smiles as she takes the hot beverage from my hand. “Surely, I should be doing this for you?” She asks innocently.
“Not at all. Everyone gets treated with the same amount of respect here. Enjoy.” I nod my head and turn to walk to my office before being stopped by Catherine.
“If that’s the case, sir. Where’s my coffee?” She asks playfully.
“You’re not my assistant, Catherine. I wouldn’t want to make Chris think I was planning on stealing his assistant now, would I?” I flash her a cheeky wink and head into my office. I am closing the door slowly, not wanting to spill my coffee.
Just as I sit down, my door swings back open again. “Good morning, big bro!”
Greyson stood at the threshold of my door, behind him stood Mia. I was looking on in anguish.
“I’m sorry, Mr Jones. He just came straight past my desk.”
I wave my hand at her. “It’s fine, Mia. You remember Greyson? My brother.”
She looks across at him, her cheeks now a hot pink against her flesh. “Oh, of course. Sorry, I didn’t recognize you.”
Greyson laughs. “It’s fine. Nice to meet you again, Mia.” He holds his hand out to which she meets halfway, before turning around and back to her desk.
I can’t help but smirk. “You didn’t leave that great of an impression on her if she doesn’t even recognize you. Did you?”
Greyson responds with a laugh. “Don’t worry; she’ll get to know me well enough.” He winks.
Slight anger builds up inside me, but I flash a smile, not wanting to give my feelings away too soon.
“I thought you were away on business until next week?” I open up my laptop as I glance up towards my brother.
“Yeah, I was meant to be, but the trip was cut short. The buyer wasn’t as keen as he appeared over the phone, so we decided not to waste time and money anymore on them, so he came home. Hopefully, they will bite on our bluff and come back to us with another offer further down the line.” Greyson walked over to the water dispenser in the corner of my office and returned to sit opposite me at my desk.
