        Fever

You awoke to the sounds of equipment being moved. You sat up in bed, the dove still in your arms, and stretched out with a yawn. For the first time in years, you finally felt rested. You sat up and grabbed the change of clothes you brought with you and quickly changed so you could see what the noise was about. Peeking out of the door once dressed, you saw a disheveled medic setting down his equipment. You must've slept through the entire battle. "Uh, hey Medic. How'd the battle go?" You asked while walking out towards him, bringing your dove with you. "Oh, Guten Morgen Y/N, it vent vell. Ve von again. How did jou sleep?" He responded, looking over to you with a tired smile. "The best I've slept in years, thank you so much. I'm actually rested for once." He smiled a bit more. "Zhe doctor knows best after all. I'm glad I could help." You nodded a bit. "You look like you could use rest now yourself though." You commented, noticing his fatigue from the battle. He shrugged. "Eh, I vill be fine-." You cut him off and grabbed his arm. "Nope, to bed with you." You dragged him to his room and pushed him onto his bed. He chuckled and rolled his eyes. "Alright, alright. I'll nap. Jou need to go eat though. Jou've been out cold for a good 13 hours." "I'll eat, I'll eat. Don't worry. Now sleep." You playfully tucked him into bed like a mother would before leaving, earning another eyeroll from the German doctor.

You left the medical bay and headed for the kitchen, passing the mercenaries in the living quarters as they celebrated their victory with alcohol and poker. You were quiet so they luckily didn't notice you. You still felt a little guilty about sleeping through a battle, and a bit depressd over them winning without your help. You made it to the kitchen and began making the only thing you could really thing of that was fast. Ramen. While it had like zero nutritional value, it was still hella good. While you waited for it to finish in the microwave, you began zoning off into your thoughts. The team really didn't need you, did they? They won an entire battle without you at all. They're happy and celebrating, not a care in the world for you. Why did you even bother staying here anyways if you're just an extra piece in the box? A spare. A few tears rolled down your cheeks as you pulled your ramen out of the microwave, sitting at the table facing away from the mercs to hide your face while you eat since you couldn't help but cry a little.

You finished your ramen and headed back to the medical bay. The room medic set you up in has already begun feeling more homey than your actual room. You went in, closed the door, and layed in bed with your dove in your arms. Then, you curled up and proceeded to cry. Cry all the tears you held back in the kitchen. No one could see or hear you in here, as long as medic is still sleeping, so you just sobbed. You felt so worthless. The team didn't need a nurse, you guess. I mean why would they when they have a talented medic. You were just his extra little help. As much as you liked him, you felt like you were nothing more than his shadow. You clutched the dove tighter while you cried yourself back to sleep unintentionally, though luckily.

You awoke once again, this time to a large hand gently shaking you. "Wh-wha-?" You managed to croak out with what little was remaining of your voice. "Y/N, it's dinnertime. Jou need to eat real food. Don't think I didn't notice jou only had ramen earlier." You let out a hoarse groan. "F-fine, I'll be there soon." He frowned a bit hearing your voice, or more like your lack thereof. "Are jou getting sick?" Oh no. You didn't manage to get yourself sick from crying again and all, did you? You shrugged in response. "I dunno, I should be fine." You could barely finish your sentence before breaking out in a coughing fit. Oh no you did. He sighed in worry. "Stay here, I'll bring jou somezhing." You tried to protest but he cut you off. "Nein. Jou are sick, and as jour doctor it is my responsibility." You huffed a bit and reluctantly agreed with no other option. He left you to get you your food and you used the moment to wash up in the bathroom the room had. Your face was red and a bit puffy from your episode earlier, so you were glad you had the blanket over your face enough to hide from medic. You didn't want to worry him even more. You went back to the bed after washing your face to help look less like you were crying and laid back under the covers before he came back.

He walked back into the room, carrying soup and hot tea. "Before jou eat, I'd like to take jour temperature." He said whole setting the tray on the edge of the bed. He pulled out a thermometer and you opened your mouth for him. "Mein gott, you've got a fever of 100°. How did jou even manage that so fast?" You shrugged weakly and yawned. "When you're done, jou're resting again. No buts. I don't care if jou slept zhe day avay." You hoarsely groaned again. "Fiiiiiine. But only cuz it's the doctors orders. I might need that sleep aid though." He nodded and pulled the pill bottle from his pocket, handing you one. "I figured you'd say zhat, so I kept zhem handy." You set the pill on the tray to take after and thanked him before eating your soup. He sat at the edge of your bed and checked your vitals once you finished, and left with your tray once you took your sleep aid. Once again, you fell asleep, your dove in your arms and medic at the center of your thoughts.
