"Gipsy Danger neural test commencing in 20 minutes." I woke to hear Di over the PA speaker. A hard thud like knock was then heard at my door.
"Kristen?" I heard Raleigh call from the other side. My eyes shot open.
"Hang on a sec, Raleigh." I quickly grabbed an olive green jumper and chucked it on. Rushing to the door, I opened to see Raleigh in what he was wearing last night. "Hey." I smiled.
"Hi." He smiled back.
"What do you need?" I asked, coming out of my room and closing the door behind me.
"I was hoping you would accompany me to my test this morning?" He asked.
"Sure." I nodded. We then started walking down to the bay, walking kinda close to each other.
Raleigh and I wear separated. He had to go down and get in gear, so because he wanted me to be there for his test, I went to the control room. He told me he had been partnered with Mako and I was a little annoyed. Why would Pentecost throw her in instead of me, she was inexperienced...no offence. I entered to see Tendo talking to many people and heading to his controls. I slowly came up behind him.
"Hey, Tendo." I greeted. He turned around and gave me a high five before turning around again.
"Mornin, tint." Tendo had been calling me that because of my last name. He always used to use it when I was a kid, same with my sister.
"Setting harness for test mode. Waiting for Mako." I heard Raleigh say though the radio. Taking a seat next to Tendo I watched as he set everything up that we needed for Gipsy's test. Heavy steps were heard at the back of me and Pentecost came to stand behind me.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
"Supporting my friend and my sister cause that's who you decided to throw in, Marshal." I replied. He grunted in an approving type way.
"Pilots on-board and ready to connect." Gipsy's AI said.
"Prepare the neural handshake." Pentecost ordered.
"Initiating neural handshake." Tendo obeyed. I looked out the window to see Gipsy Danger. I had to admit, she was slightly similar to Echo Hound but if I had to pick one of them, it would be Gipsy.
"Hey, Kristen." I heard Herc say from beside me.
"Hey, Herc." I replied giving him a kind nod. A few moments past as the neural handshake took over. Once it was done, Gipsy held both her arms up in a basic fighting position, both hands up. Tendo then stood, looking at the tech model of Gipsy.
"Okay, Gipsy. Lining up nicely." He finished looking over, turned it off and looked to Pentecost as he took his seat again. "Better get ready." He then swirled to wear I was. Knowing Tendo was going to be doing a lot I stood up and moved next to Herc.
"Pilot to Jaeger connection complete." Gipsy's AI spoke again. A sudden yell came from the entrance of the room with a small clink added.
"Marshal! Marshal!" Hermann cried, running his best into the room. Pentecost, Herc and I all turned to see him limp into the room. "I need to talk to you."
"Not now, Mr Gottlieb." Pentecost shot away, turning back to Gipsy. "I'm sure you can appreciate how important this moment is to me."
"Newton created a neural bridge from garbage and Drifted with a Kaiju." Everyone's head shot to Hermann. Newt did what! Pentecost left to follow Hermann out of the room, but before leaving he left he yelled something to me.
"Stay here, Kristen." He ordered. I rolled my eyes, what else did he expect me to do.
"Oi, Dad!" Another voice called. Oh, no. Chuck came to Herc's side, replacing Pentecost.
"Not now, Chuck or you'll get a boot up yee ass." Herc threatened. I snickered quietly as Tendo flew across from one control to another. Getting my attention off of Chuck I watched as Gipsy brought her hands into the kung-fu pose. One hand in a fist enclosed by the other hand. "Pretty impressive." Herc said, coming by Tendo and placing his focus back onto Gipsy instead of Chuck.
"Yeah, he remembers how to turn it on." Chuck said, most likely rolling his eyes.
"Oi, show some respect." Herc yelled. Chuck just gave him a look. "When his brother died, he got the Jaeger back to shore on his own. I've known two other pilots that's been able to do that." Herc added. "And one of them is standing right here." I said, looking to Chuck and giving him a sassy look. He shut his mouth then. I celebrated my victory in my head but smiled to myself. Gipsy again brought her fists to the first position she did and I heard everyone clap in the background. A sudden beep was heard.
"Both out of alignment." Tendo informed.
"Both of them?" Herc questioned, leaning in to see.
"Both of them." Tendo confirmed. He then rushed to grab the microphone. "Gipsy, Gipsy! You're out of alignment!" He screamed into the microphone. "You are both out of alignment."
"I'm okay. Just let me control it." Raleigh's voice said. I pushed Tendo out of the way for a second.
"Be careful Raleigh." I told him.
"I'll try." I heard him smile. Tendo then pushed me.
"You're stabilising. But Mako is way out." A small pause and I looked to the monitor as Tendo spoke again. "She's starting to chase the rabbit!" Indeed she was. Her heart was going crazy and she went off the charts on the monitor. I kept hearing Raleigh's voice, trying to pull Mako back but I already knew there was no way of pulling her back that easily. As I looked at the monitor is showed that Mako was powering up the Plasma Cannon.
"Oh, no." I whispered. I looked out the window to see Gipsy had raised her right arm and her hand had transformed into the cannon, charging.
"Weapon system engaged. Go to fail-safe!" Tendo yelled.
"Fail-safe not responding. There's a problem with the neural blocker!" a man called, informing Tendo. "Her connection's way too strong!" Tendo then tried pushing this button, he did it a few times. It didn't seem to work though. I could hear the cannon charging louder and I knew if we didn't shut her down soon, we were most likely gonna die.
"Mako!" I heard Raleigh scream at her and my heart beat raised. There was no way he was gonna be able to stop her. Tendo then ditched the button and started to yell at everyone.
"Everybody out of here, now!" people started to rush to the door. Herc, Chuck and I all headed to the switch unit to try and find a way to shut her off. Tendo joined after everyone else left, just as Herc started to yell. "The power line! The power line! Get the main power line!" He screamed at the top of his lungs, pointing down to where I was. I grabbed the main power line and grunted in effort as I tired to get it out. One, two, three I pulled and pulled.
"Take them offline! Take them offline!" I heard Pentecost cry as he entered the room. Pulling the plug for the fifth time, it came lose.
"I just did." I replied. Pentecost then came to me and hugged me. I hugged back tightly and we both looked to Gipsy as we heard her shutting down.
"Weapon system disengaged." Gipsy's AI said and I felt Pentecost's grip loosen a little as we watched Gipsy's hand fall. After a while of holding each other, he let go and brought my face to look at him.
"Are you okay?" he asked. I nodded my head rapidly.
"Yes, yes I'm okay." I answered. Just as he pulled me into another hug we heard Gipsy's AI speak again.
"Would you like to try again?"
