This was a new life. Everything that had happened before just felt like it wasn't real. This was now, this was happening and this was perfect. At 20 years old, you wouldn't expect to be married and already pregnant with your first child, but sometimes that's just how things go. You can never know what's going to happen in your life, no matter how long you sit and plan it out. Unexpected things happen. There will be obstacles, there will be go ahead signs and there will often be times where you have to sit and wait for something to happen.
I was content and perfectly happy - no, I was overjoyed - with my life right now. Obviously there are things that I would change, people who I still wished were around, but life is just one big maze. You have to keep walking into walls to get where you want to go. You may get a little lost along the way and have to change paths, but once you get there, the feeling cannot be matched.
I had that feeling right now. My feet were propped up on the sofa, my big overgrown bump blocking my feet from actually being in sight. A smile was gracing my face as I listened to Caspar recording his new video upstairs. The joy in his voice that came from knowing he was making thousands of people smile sent warm waves through my veins, bringing me joy too. Honestly, I wasn't too sure what video he was even recording but I knew i was going to be great. A cheesy romance film was playing on the TV and I was scrolling through tweets I had been receiving all day. I had a bowl of popcorn balancing on my bump as I did so.
The only thing putting a slight downer on my mood was the fact that my due date was almost a week ago, meaning our little bug was late. I just wanted him here now, in my arms. I wanted to watch his tiny fingers curl around one of Caspar's giant ones and I wanted to see the look on Caspar's face when that happened. I wanted to capture it on camera, the look on his face when he first see's his son. We still hadn't decided on a name, Caspar was dead set on 'Frank', but I couldn't do that to my child. I liked Mason or Ezra. Maybe even Dylan for a strange sentimental value. One of Caspar's infamous screams came from upstairs causing a small chuckle to escape my lips.
But that chuckle soon turned into a gasp. That gasp turned into a whimper. Then a scream fell from my mouth.
Waves of sharp pain were shooting through my stomach and I could feel the sofa dampening underneath me. I contorted in pain, curling up as much as I could with a huge bump. I heard the bowl of popcorn fall and smash onto the floor as I did so.
"Please don't be blood, please don't be blood, please don't be blood." I repeated as I placed my hand onto the moisture and brought it back up to see what it was. A sigh of relief fell from my lips as there was no redness on my hand. But soon, my face dropped. Another scream exited my mouth as more pain travelled through me. This was happening. This was happening now.
Pounding footsteps could be heard on the stairs and soon Caspar's face appeared round the corner, his body quickly following.
"What - what's going on? Are you alright?" He asked frantically, his eyes darting over to the smashed bowl.
"It's happening." I panted, trying to pull myself up from the sofa. He ran over immediately, my hand clutching his as he helped.
"What's happening? Sum you're scaring me..." He spoke. His tone was calm yet stern as his eyes searched my face.
"The baby! The baby's coming!" I yelled as I stood up fully, squeezing his hand as more pain shot through me. My ankles felt heavy and weak as I balanced myself and gripped onto Caspar for dear life.
"Shit. Shit shit shit I'm not - I mean, we're not prepared! We haven't got anything ready I-"
"Shut up!" I abruptly shouted, watching him drag his free hand through his hair and then down to his neck where it stayed. "Just, please, help me to the car." I spoke more softly.
