"Come on!" Angelica hissed quietly to her two younger sisters, "Listen Peggy if you-"
"Someone responsible better come with you both." She interjected.
Angelica rolled her eyes at her youngest, and the least responsible, sister as she quietly opened the back door of the large house. Eliza left first, followed by Peggy, and then Angelica walked out, slowly and quietly closing the door.
"Let's go." Angelica said with a smirk, leading her sisters away from the house.
Angelica smiled, taking a deep breath as they got into the city, when they got downtown. Listening to the bustle of New York despite the sunset happening. Her father would kill them if he knew they were here right now, or at least Peggy wouldn't stop telling them that.
"Daddy always says to be home by sundown."
"Daddy doesn't need to know." Angelica argued.
"Daddy said not to go downtown!"
"Like we said you're free to go." Eliza responded.
Angelica blocked out their arguing as she looked around, having to keep a watch on her dress so it wouldn't get dirty and her father would definitely know they snuck out.
"Both of you stop arguing- just look around. Look around, the revolutions happening!" She said, almost sounding giddy.
"It's bad enough Daddy wants to go to war." Peggy responded.
"People shouting in the square," Eliza responded, jokingly.
"And violence on our shore!" Peggy protested.
"New ideas in the air!" Angelica said, spinning around to face the two. The three kept talking amongst themselves before Angelica felt someone tap her on the shoulder. She turned to face whoever it was.
A man of about average height, so just a little taller than her thanks to the heels she was in, was looking at her.
"Yes? Can I help you with something?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"The name's Aaron Burr, and I was just wondering why you three are slummin' down here in the city. With your fancy heels and that perfume that smells like your father has got some money."
Angelica clenched her jaw, staring with her piercing brown eyes up at him.
"Are you searching for an urchin to give you ideas, cause I may be able to give you some and save you the trouble."
Angelica scoffed out a laugh, "You disgust me."
"Ah, so you've discussed me? I'm a trust fund my lady you can trust me."
"Ah, well, you see; I've been reading Common Sense, by Thomas Paine. Some men have said I'm intense or insane. You want a revolution? Well I want a revelation." She responded, taking a small step towards him.
"And what would that revelation be?"
"We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal. And when I meet Thomas Jefferson, I'm going to convince him to include women in the sequel." She answered, hand on hip.
Aaron Burr straightened as he looked at her, "A piece of advice Ms-"
"Schuyler. Angelica Schuyler."
"Talk less, smile more-"
She opened her mouth to respond to this, a statement that sounded like it was going the way she had heard from her father plenty of times.
"You can't run your mouth, you have to be careful. Trust me, I support what you're saying completely, but at the moment people are already split. But don't let anyone stop you."
Burr dipped his head and Angelica did right back.
"I hope to see you around more Ms. Schuyler."
"Angelica is just fine. I prefer not to be known for the name my father made. I'll make my own."
"Angelica." He agreed, then left.
Peggy and Eliza ran in front of her when he left, giggling like maniacs.
"You two were so flirting!" Peggy said.
"No. He started out by flirting, I turned him down and then we had a short but smart conversation."
Peggy rolled her eyes. Her and Eliza kept talking and Angelica only half-heartly listened. She was looking around when a group of four men caught her eye, Burr had walked over to them and they all seemed a bit annoyed with him. One of them seemed somewhat similar but she couldn't place them right now. One she hadn't seen was the one she was focused on, and the one currently talking.
"A bunch of revolutionary men and abolitionists- show us you're position and where the ammunition is!" She heard him say and smiled slightly, intrigued. Eliza noticed her staring at the men.
"Ooh, you looking at Burr?" She jokingly asked.
"No. Not him." Eliza followed her gaze to the man.
"It's time to take a shot! This is our shot and I'm not throwing it away." He said, defyingly
"He's interesting." Eliza said.
"He knows his opinions and will fight for them."
"How can you tell?"
"Listen to him, just look at him. He has a...spark." She said and shrugged. "Come on, let's go. There's a group of women a few streets away that I've been waiting to talk to all day."
