"hey its younghyun's birthday next week, are you gonna go for the cup sleeve event?" my close friend annabel asked me. both of us have been acquainted since middle school but we weren't that close to each other. it was only this freshman year in high school which brought us closer together, since we found out that we both liked the band day6. they had just debuted a few months back, and let's just say we fell in love with them. their music was something on a higher level than what a normal mainstream band would produce. the lyrics were so relatable and thats what made fans like us get pulled towards their music.
"yeah sure! i don't mind going with you, and i was already planning to go myself. my parents should be fine with it as exams are already over.. should we give out fan support?" i voiced, not sure what to do as this would be my first cup sleeve event. i had always seen my mutuals on twitter who stan multiple groups give out fan support and thus i had this idea.
"yeah! we totally should. who knows, the king younghyun himself might even be there." annabel playfully smirked at me.
"oh bel, don't give yourself false hope. anyway, who shall design the fan support?"

the day of the event had arrived and we both reached early prior to the event starting. the event only lasted for a day, and most of the fans would come to hog the tables so they could give out fan support. the cafe is quite small, so even with just a handful of people the place could be crowded.
we found a seat near to the counter and settled down. i waved to my co-workers who were on duty that day and i bought a small cup of green tea latte. i work at the cafe during the holidays to give myself extra pocket money, hence i knew the workers here. but since it was just a typical weekend, i was not working. anyway, my purpose at the cafe for the day is to give out fan support and celebrate younghyun's birthday.
most of the morning went smoothly and both annabel and i enjoyed ourselves at the cafe listening to music and interacting with other fans who supported day6.
but towards the afternoon, more and more fans came and the cafe became packed. the cafe had not hosted a cup sleeve event before this one, hence they were understaffed and could not complete orders as quickly. understanding the situation, i went forward to help at the counter to serve drinks and such. annabel on the other hand had left earlier due to having some classes in the afternoon. my co workers and i took turns to swap our roles around. initially, i was serving drinks and wiping tables but after 1 hour, i swapped roles to take orders.
"hello, welcome to cafe de paris! may i take your order?" i said to my first customer of the day. he was wearing a jacket with a high collar, a face mask that covered most of his face and a pair of prescription glasses. his hair was well hidden under a bucket hat, with only a couple of stray strands coming out. the customer seemed to have some difficulty in choosing what to order, so i recommended him our best deal, a caramel latte and a scoop of ice cream on a chocolate lava cake to go with. i didn't pay much attention to this customer, but his name caught my attention. when i asked him for his name, he told me to "just put bri, thank you."
hold on, isn't younghyun's english name brian?
i shrugged it off. how possible is it that i see an idol at work? plus, this cafe isn't even near the jyp building.
"caramel latte and cake for br-" my co-worker yelled. "bri" came up to the counter almost immediately to collect his order. his mask had moved slightly and i was able to see half of his cheeks and his nose. he caught me red handed staring at him and gave me a wink. while i was studying the anatomy of his face, a customer cleared their throat and i turned back to face my impatient customer. by then, "bri" had disappeared so i couldn't confirm his identify.
the crowds slowly disappeared as time went by and i left the cafe.

"ding!"
the sound of my instagram notifications rang. i woke my phone, and saw that the notification was from day6's instagram page. i unlocked my screen and scrolled through my instagram feed.

"OH MY GOD!" i yelled. wow, it's true. the one and only brian kang younghyun had visited us secretly and i was lucky enough to have a short interaction with him. i immediately got another notification from annabel. i swiped on the notification, opening her text message.

ah well, they didnt reply. i just hope younghyun got to see the message. that was a very interesting encounter, and i do agree that i might be one of his luckiest fans to even be able to see him in real life.
