"Um....w-what really happens if you guys don't find a mate or your mate is already in love with someone else or is married?" Ryan asks, scratching his nape, looking down.

The girls looked at Ryan and looked down. "The mermaid is more or less a shell of their past selves. If neglected, A mermaid will find their way home. If the love of their family can not ease the pain then they lay their last days in the field of glow, a patch of sea flowers that a mermaid lays in, and sinks into the sand to become a beautiful new coral reef." One answered softly.

"Really? but that is so unfair, why do you guys have such rules? Can't the mermaids fell in love with someone else other than their mate? If not then that...that's so cruel." Ryan felt bad for the mermaids.

"It's not a simple rule of law, the connection a mermaid has with their mate is... special, your one true love. A mermaid is dependent on affection, that's why we survive in pods until we venture out to find our mates. A mermaid with a broken heart is too much to bear for it." One of them answered. "It's not something we can control." Another said seeming mad. "And it's a shame on you to judge how we live! You know nothing of our kind besides fairytales." She said and swam out angry.

"Yeah... I know nothing, cause until now I never thought to be meeting a real creature, which was only thought to be fantasy. I am sorry but I am just a normal human, who never believed in fantasy, and all of this happens all of a sudden." Ryan said.

Soon Jackie returned. "I think it's time to take Ryan back to land... I'll see you soon" Jackie said and hugged his sisters. He held Ryan's hand and swam with him out of the dome...

"h-hey...why are we leaving do suddenly?" Ryan asks, looking behind the sea life.

"I think this was a bad idea..." he said softly.

"Hey, are you mad about something? it was not a bad idea, I liked your people..." Ryan said.

"I just need to get you home, this was silly. I thought if... uhh never mind..." he said as his swimming started to slow down. "N-ngh..." he whimpered and held his chest.

"are you ok?" Ryan looks worried, as he grabbed Jackie by his shoulders.

"I'm..." Jackie mumbled then fainted, floating down to the seafloor. The sisters saw this and swam quickly to them. Ryan grabbed Jackie by his waist. "Jackie? Hey? are you ok? ..."He moved his hand on Jackie's cheek. "Jackie wake up." He was really worried as his heart began to sank.

Jackie wasn't responsive.. two of the sisters took Jackie into the dome. "We have to get him help.. and you have to get back to land, with Jackie unconscious he can't activate his spell on you. We have to get you to the surface for air before it wears off." She states.

"But what is happening to him?" Ryan asks worried, he doesn't know why but his heart started to ache.

"We think it has something to do with his mate bond.. he may be giving up," She said sadly.

"But this way he is going to die." Ryan got shivers on his body. "Why are you doing that to yourself!" he looked at Jackie. "isn't their any way to save him?"

"It's not really something to involve yourself with-" she said and pulled Ryan by his arm starting to swim away. "Hey wait!" he pulled his hand back "h-he...he is my friend and my...he is my mate I can't let him die!."

Her eyes widen. "Wh-...What?" She asked softly. "B-But.. why were you guys being awkward and acting like friends?"

"I can't tell you everything now, we need to save him, so is there any way?"He said, worried.
