WADE'S POV
I chatted with the Maria and Marquis for a bit while Burr was in the corner, still being stubborn about having to talk to a human.
So far everything was great! It turns out Maria was a writer and Marquis was a carpenter before they died. We all tried our best to ignore Burr, who hasn't said anything the entire time.
After an hour- or what felt like an hour when in reality it was 30 minutes. Hector got up to get the other group of skeletons. He was still annoyed that Burr didn't say anything for the entire time. He led Marquis and Maria out the door, following them. Hector looked back at me and Burr and said, "Since you didn't talk to him, I'm giving you ten minutes to talk to him." He told Burr sternly. Burr looked annoyed but agreed, well, he didn't agree, Hector just shut the door before he could respond.
Burr just sighed and turned back to me. "Don't talk to me for the ten minutes." He sighed. "Humans are just annoying, let alone the midgets." I heard him mumble under his breath.
oKaY! FIRST OF ALL, I AM NOT SHORT! Second, I would think that Hector would find out about us not talking. And third, why is he saying humans are annoying? Wasn't he one before? And fourth, I AM NOT SHORT!
After thinking, I had a feeling Hector would know if we didn't talk. So I tried to start a conversation. "So, who's your favorite Marvel character?" I asked him, not knowing what to say. I wasn't a big conversation starter. Thoughts came into my head as soon as I said that, like, does he know what marvel is? Does he like marvel? Does he prefer DC? Should I have asked who his favorite Marvel OR DC character is?!
Burr obviously didn't seem impressed, "I heard you asking that to the other two, your favorite superhero is Spider-man and your favorite "villan" (A/N I'm putting quotation marks cuz he's technically not a villain) is the Winter Soldier." He said, his voice still monotone. I don't know if I should be offended or impressed. He was paying attention!
"What's yours though?" I asked him. "Deadpool. But I'm reconsidering since your name is Wade." Ok, he's a harsh dude.
The room fell silent for what felt like forever. During this time I decided to just look around the room. It had purple-ish black couches that we were sitting on, a fireplace 20 feet to the right of us, Some purple and gold carpet that made an X in the room, the walls were a pretty dark shade of purple, and there was a grandfather clock.
I guess Burr realized he would be stuck with me and there would be no way of ignoring me if I technically lived with them now, because he finally spoke up. "What are you going to be when you grow up?" He asked me. A cliche adult question, but it'll do. "It depends if y'all are going to let me out of here." I joked. He didn't laugh. I quickly thought of what thing I wanted to be. Would they be ok if I said an archeologist? Or a paleontologist? Would that be creepy? Well, he gave me a cliche question, I'm giving him a cliche answer, "Actor?" I was going for a fireman but that just came out. He nodded his head as if saying 'Cool, cool.' I wanted to ask him something cool. Like, how did he die? Would that be harsh? Or, what was his job when he was alive? "What was your job?" I asked him. I don't know! It just came out of my mouth! "Oh, just a chef." He responded in his monotone voice.
The room fell silent once more. I was starting to think about school since I had nothing else to think about, SCHOOL! I was starting to wonder if I would get out of here before my history test on the American Revolution. Not that I wanted to take the test, I just didn't want to fail. I probably would fail if I don't get out of here. I don't want to escape, that would be rude. Man.. I'd be horrible if someone ever kidnapped me.
I mentally facepalmed to myself. I kept glancing over at the clock, only 4 minutes have gone by! I anxiously start drumming my fingers against the sofa's arm. I guess Burr thought that I was trying to get his attention. "What?" He asked me harshly, obviously annoyed. My head shot up, "S-sorry, I do this when I'm nervous."
"You're nervous?" He asked like he didn't believe me. His expression softened for whatever reason.
I nod my head and just stop drumming my fingers and start bouncing my leg, a quieter anxiety reliever. I glanced over at Burr, he's still obviously annoyed by me. "So.. did you have any children, siblings?" I asked him. "I had a wife, one kid, one sibling. Who's your parents?" I frown quickly formed on my face. My mother died when I was five, she died by cancer. My father left shortly after, leaving me and my sister to stay at our grandparents. My grandma is very sick though.. and my grandpa is trying his best to pay her medical bills. I wonder if they're worrying about me? I hope not. I realized how long I didn't respond for, about 30 seconds. "O-oh, Jane Alvarez and Jonah Alvarez." Burr nodded.
Silence fell between us again.
"I'm sorry about your parents." He said out of nowhere.
"What?" "I know they died. I know, it's tough. I've been there." "How do you-" "News comes pretty fast. I'm sure they were nice."
HOLD UP! I KNOW MY MOM DIED, BUT HE SAID "THEY" DIED! DID MY DAD DID TOO?! This is effin great.
No matter how big my curiosity was to know if my father really did die was becoming bigger by the minute, I tried to talk about something else.
"Favorite food?" I asked him. "I like Teriyaki chicken." Burr replied. "Nice." Atleast they might have nice food here if he said Teriyaki! Unless if that's what he ate when he was alive. "Favorite book?" "Any mystery." Atleast now I know what to get him for Christmas if I stay here that long. "Favorite music genre?" "Jazz" the famous and almighty Bee Movie quote that I should have asked sooner, "Ya like jazz?" I said while trying to hold in my laughter. I guess he doesn't understand today's humor because he looked puzzled then replied "Yes?"
"Favorite school subject?" I asked, "Language." This went on for a long time where I would ask questions and he would answer and vice versa. It was all fun and he turned out to be pretty nice.
I heard a buzz and then the door swung open, Hector was standing in the doorframe. "Times up! Did y'all get along?" Hector shouted from the door frame.
Burr and I looked at eachother. "Yep." Burr said.
