Once upon a time, Arachne (we sorta feel bad for her but if you know Heroes it Olympus !spoiler alert! She is the reason Annabeth and Percy fell into Tartarus and probably traumatized them for life so not really she deserves it if we're talking about the HOO universe) was a famous weaver back in the day in Ancient Greece.

(Sorry it's a bad picture, I know) Athena weaved a picture about how great the gods were and Arachne weaved a picture at how lazy the gods were. At the end of the day, Arachne won. Athena, being a sore looser, was upset and did the most logical thing and turned Arachne into a spider. Ew. Ew. I hate spiders so much.
