Calloused and unpredictable Plume Grace is at her wit's end. After winning the 68th Hunger Games by the skin of her teeth, she effectively cut herself off from the rest of the world. She refused to attend dinner banquets in the Capitol, declined meetings with politicians, and avoided any fame that came her way at all costs. Throughout the years, she had developed a simple mantra that she lived by; hurt people before they hurt you. She had always been violent, but her tendencies to lash out only heightened after her Victory Tour. Plume built protective walls around her to shield herself from more unnecessary trauma, beginning by shutting down all forms of communication.
However, Aries Roman managed to bypass her fortitudes with ease and slip easily into her heart. He was the only person that Plume considered a mutual. They were birds of a feather—both angry and filled with an ungodly desire to make the Capitol pay for their trauma. Plume believed that they were destined to be friends. But, like all good things in Plume's life, it had to come burning down.
There's a new rule as the 75th Hunger Games rolls around. Victors will now be pooled in as tributes once more and forced to compete in a pageant of killers.
Plume was angry before, but now she's furious. First they take her family, and now they're taking her friend and her life. Plume will stop at nothing until the tyrant President Snow crumbles at her feet and begs her for mercy. Fire is catching, and Plume is content with watching it burn.
