"S… Stop…”
“Why, Todoroki?”
Midoriya held his crush in his arms. His crush, the one who had been so brutally beaten. His crush, who had IV units trailing behind him on the floor, pumping him full of medication. His crush, who is, and had been broken.
“Because… Whoever said I deserve it…?”
It hurt.
Midoriya felt a dull ache, a bottomless pit form in his chest. He felt such empathy for his friend, as well as guilt for not knowing what to do.
“Todoroki… you deserve all of this and more…” he whispered, causing the other to tear up and let out a sob.
Todoroki hugged back, clenching Midoriya’s shirt, tears staining the fabric. He tried to hold back, tried to not show anything, but it all came flooding out. Todoroki broke down. He was sobbing, digging his fingers into Midoriya’s back, gasping for air. He cried as if he had never done so before, as if this was his first time allowing tears to slide down his cheeks.
“Are you two done yet, or what?” Bakugo piped up, repressing his anger towards the scene in front of him.
Midoriya let go of Todoroki, who backed up and covered his face with his hospital gown. Midoriya stood up and looked at Bakugo, his soft expression meeting Bakugo’s steely, angry one.
“Calm down, Kacchan. I’m just supporting my friend.”
“Yeah, whatever. It’s not like he deserves it. I bet he’s doing all of this purely for attention, since he wasn’t getting enough back in school.”
Midoriya heard Todoroki’s breath hitch behind him, and he glared at Bakugo.
“Kacchan, what the hell?!?”
“What?! I’m just speaking the truth! He doesn’t deserve your attention! You’re so much better than him, so why are you giving him it?!”
Bakugo’s face went red as he realized what he had said. He turned around and stormed out the door, slamming it behind him.
“Hey… Todoroki…” Midoriya looked behind him to see him sitting up, tears streaming down his face, him wincing with every breath he took, “I have a question…”
“What?” He responded, venom dripping from his words, turning them dark.
“Do.. you remember anything from the hospital..? Anything at all?”
“Yes.”
“Can you please tell me?”
“The last thing I remember before waking up in this hellhole was a nurse giving me my medication. Then, I woke up to this.” He spread out his arms, showing Midoriya the room.
“I… see. I’m sorry, Todo-”
“Get out.”
“Sorry, repeat that?”
“I said… GET OUT!!”
Todoroki pushed Midoriya, sending him sprawling towards the door.
“To.. Todoroki! What-”
“Leave!! Now,” He let out a dry sob and hugged himself, “Just go… go away...”
There was a sudden loud knock on the door, startling both of the emotional teenagers.
“What do you want?!” Todoroki yelled towards the door, tears falling down his cheeks.
It burst open, revealing an infuriated Enji Todoroki. He stared at Todoroki, hatred filling his turquoise eyes.
“Are you kidding me, Shoto?”
“Wha.. What..?”
“I SAID, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! YOU’RE IN THE FUCKING HOSPITAL!!! YOU ARE PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF DEFENDING YOURSELF!!! WHY DIDN’T YOU?!” Enji screamed towards Todoroki, “USELESS! COMPLETELY USELESS!”
No… no, no, no…!
“SHUT UP!!” Todoroki tried to shoot a small blast of fire towards his father. Tried to.
As he aimed and released his power, nothing emerged from his outstretched hand. Confused, he tried again. And again. And again. Screaming in frustration, he put all of his willpower into his left hand and shot it at his father.
The room exploded with light, intense heat filling the room.
“TODOROKI!” Midoriya screeched, leaping backwards to avoid the flames.
It was like a wildfire, except it was controlled. There were flames filling the entire room, but nothing more. They were only focused in on spot - where Endeavour had stood.
It’s as if they were meant to kill.
As soon as they had appeared, they disappeared, revealing a brutal scene. There lay a burnt Endeavor, bleeding from his head. He had burns all around his body, most being 3rd-degree, with some scattered 2nd-degree.
“To… Todoroki…!!”
Midoriya looked over to look at Todoroki. He had his hands over his mouth, and his eyes were wide. Tears were falling from his eyes, his minimized pupils showed his guilt and worry.
“I… I didn’t mean…” he trailed off.
A group of nurses burst through the door, some shrieking when they saw Enji laying there on the floor.
“Quick! We need a doctor!” Midoriya yelled to the nurses. One of them nodded and ran off, presumably going to get a professional to handle the situation. Whenever she left, Bakugo burst in through the door, his eyes widening when he saw the situation.
“What the fuck happened in here?!” he yelled in surprise, surveying the view.
“I… I…” Todoroki was in shock, unable to comprehend what had happened, “I don’t know…” he whispered, a stream of water escaping his eyelids.
Midoriya walked over to Endeavor and checked his pulse.
Deku breathed out a sigh of relief, “He’s alive, don’t worry.”
Todoroki fell to his knees and let out another sob.
“Todoroki!”
Midoriya rushed over to Todoroki and hugged him.
“Do… Do you know what happened…?”
“I.. Don’t know.. I just.. My hands… something… Aah-!” Todoroki shuddered, a spasm of coughing mixed with crying raked his body. Midoriya ran his hands through Todoroki’s hair, trying to calm him down. It did anything but.
“Just leave me alone!” Todoroki cried, standing up and rushing out the door
“Where are you going, bastard?!” Bakugo shouted out.
“Bakugo, he’s still hurt! Something could happen!”
-
Todoroki was panting heavily, pain shooting up his body with every step he took. The sun was beginning to set, casting a dark glow on the city. He tripped, falling face-first on the concrete, gaining strange glances from the surrounding people.
Keep running, idiot.
He let a tear roll down his cheek as he continued. He couldn’t stop.
He wasn’t looking where he was going as he bumped into someone, sending him flying sideways and into an alleyway.
What…?
He grunted as he hit a brick wall, banging his head hard enough to make him collapse.
Why is everything happening to me…?
He wondered as he sat up, cradling his injured head. A shadow loomed above him as he stood up, blocking his view to outside the alley.
“Why hello there, Shoto Todoroki.”
