Chapter 3: The Aftermath

"I.... I'm.... alive..?" were the first words to come from the barely breathing Logan as he lay on the operating table, a long line of stitches down his chest. "w... where's Alyssa...?" he asked quietly, slowly turning to Kelsey, who stayed silent as Logan's eyes drifted to the table behind her, whatever was on it was covered in a clean, white blanket. The only thing protruding from the blanket were curly strands of blonde hair. It was then that he realized that the one under the blanket was none other than Alyssa.

"no... NO!!!! Alyssa!!!" he yelled as loud as he could muster in his weak state, "Alyssa no!!! That can't be her!! It can't be!!! What happened to her!? What did you do to her Stein!?" He wailed as the tears streamed down his cheeks.

"She begged me to..." Stein replied softly, "she begged and begged. You needed a new heart to live, and she wanted to give hers to you."

"She... what..? No... Why..?" Logan, said, his voice cracking as his eyes widened and his pupils dilated.

"She said... she would rather give her life for you than live without you for the rest of her life..." Kelsey said, on the verge of tears as she clenched her fists in her lap, "she loved you enough to give you her life..."

Logan clenched his fists as tears fell onto the blanket that covered him. He pushed himself up into a sitting position, a look of pain on his face from the quick movement, "can... Can I see her..?" He turned to Stein, "please, let me see her."

Stein nodded "alright," he pulled the covers down just enough to uncover her head and neck and laid the removed part of the blanket down cleanly.

"Alyssa....." Logan sobbed, "you didn't have to do this... Not for me..."

"She asked me before," Kelsey started, putting her hands on Logan's shoulder, "she asked if I thought you'd forget her."

"Never... Do you hear me Alyssa? I will NEVER forget you!" Logan cried, "never... Not for the rest of my life..." He reached over weakly and moved some hair out of Alyssa's pale face, "I never thought this could happen...

Kelsey hugged him softly, " she loved you more than anything. She didn't want you to die and didn't want to live without you... She wanted to give you a second chance at life." She smiled a little, "besides, she isn't completely gone," she laid her hand on his chest, "her heart beats within you. You always have that piece of her. Her blood is in your veins and," she moved her hand and placed one finger gently on his forehead, "she lives on here, in your mind, in your memories. As long as you remember her, she's still alive."

Logan cried and hugged her tightly, "thank you. Thank you so much.."

She smiled and hugged him back, "you don't need to thank me, now get some rest. You'll need it if you want to regain your strength."

Logan nodded and slowly laid back down, "I'll try, but I have something to ask you.." He said quietly.

Kelsey nodded, "what is it?"

"Alyssa told me that she heard you singing once, she said it was beautiful. Will you sing for me..?" He asked as Alex glared at him from the door.

"What the hell are you doing?" He walked over, pulling Kelsey away, "she's my partner, stop asking her to do things for YOU!" He said through clenched teeth.

Kelsey pushed him away, "Alex what the FUCK?!" She yelled, "I may be your partner but I'm NOT your property!" She said before storming off,

"Kelsey, wait!" Alex said as she walked away, "this is all YOUR fault!" He yelled at Logan.

"What the hell did I do?!"
