Kelsey smiled. 'And that's how it all began. How i met my partner and started my new life. It was hardly a month ago but it feels like longer. And now... We're on our first mission' she thought.

"Hey, Kelsey! Snap outta your daydream or we're gonna miss the damn train!" Alex yelled to her from the platform.

"Oh!" Kelsey said with a start, "sorry Alex!" She ran over to him, almost tripping once along the way.

"Jeez, you really are a ditz" he said, flicking her forehead.

"Hmph! Meanie" Kelsey replied, flicking him back. Alex rolled his eyes as the train stopped behind them.

"Let's go" he said, walking to the train. Kelsey followed, sitting next to him after boarding.

"So, our target?" He asked.

Kelsey opened a folder and took out a file.

"This," she said, pointing to the page, "a small town on the outskirts of Edo. There is a rumor there of disappearing people. It all centers around an abandoned warehouse. It's said that poor and cheap travelers stay there before moving on to the next town, however, few have ever left. Only one man has survived and he's now in an asylum. They say he's insane, ranting about a monster that turned the others into blue orbs -or souls- and swallowed the souls whole."

"So we don't know what it looks like?" Alex asked.

"No," said Kelsey, "but from what i know about kishin eggs, they look like deformed, mutated humans." She took out old records "these are some examples. The kishin Asura, jack the ripper, and others." She handed Alex the files.

"Ugh," he said, disgusted, "these things are nasty."

"Yeah, in and out." Kelsey replied. "They consume human souls for power. Their corrupt souls could morph to even greater evil... Just as Asura did."

Alex looked around the car, the people were sitting as far from them as possible.

"Why aren't they sitting here?" He asked Kelsey.

"It's the insignia," she said, pointing to their badges, "it indicates that we're students of the DWMA... It's because of me though. As a weapon, I'm of a group that is feared and discriminated against. Normal people are afraid of us." She said sadly.

"Hey!" Alex said, putting an arm around her and pulling her close playfully, "cheer up! The normals just don't understand! That's all. It doesn't matter what they think" he smiled encouragingly.

"Haha thanks" Kelsey smiled back.

After a few hours they arrived in the town.

"This is it" said Kelsey "the old samurai castle town of Matsue."

"Samurai, eh? Sounds cool. Let's go" Alex said, pointing to the map "we should probably start in the middle of town."

"No," Kelsey replied, "the creature isn't likely to come out in that populated of an area. It may be a corrupt soul, but it's not stupid. It would be more likely to be around here" she traced some small back streets on the map with her pointer finger "or anywhere that isn't well lit. Since this was once a castle, everything is relatively uniform. The streets have the same shape as the outer wall so it shouldn't be hard to start from the outer wall and move inward."

Alex sighed, "that sounds like a lot more work than it's worth" he looked over at her with one eye closed "i say we just go from trees and rooftops for a sky view. That's faster"

"True," Kelsey replied, mimicking the look on his face "however, if we're up there there is no chance of luring it out unless some poor person walks by it. But who knows, it could be one soul away from becoming a kishin."
