Even though I was only gone for a couple of weeks it felt like years when I finally got to reconnect with my court. I missed sparring with Cassian and Azriel, playing chess with Armen, chatting with Mor, and spending time with Rhys and Kai.

Since then I've spent most of my time at our house. Elain was out of town, and Nesta was back in her apartment. The rest of the court was at the townhouse but visited often. I spent lots of time in my art room, and in the nursery with Kai.

The time I spent away from home proved to me that no matter how good life seemed right now, that it would always throw something at me. It would help me to prepare for the future, and always be ready for whatever came at me. I couldn't be helpless again.

I was currently in my art room, finishing up painting a new painting that had come to mind. Every now and then I would take a peek at Kai to see him happily asleep on top of his blanket by the window. I dipped my paint into a turquoise color I had mixed and added the finishing touches to the painting. Then I sat my paintbrush down to fulling examine the piece.

It was abstract. In the middle, fading into the background, was Aelin. Her turquoise and gold eyes glowed as she held a little ball of flame in her hands. In the background was the Orynth palace with a hawk flying over it. I don't know what urged to paint it, it just came to mind and I couldn't get it out of my head. It was beautiful.

I heard the door click open and swung around to see Rhysand coming through the door. He smiled at me and came up behind me, wrapping his arms around me. He pressed a kiss to my head and rested his chin on the top of his head while he inspected the painting.

"Feyre darling," he murmured. "It's beautiful."

I smiled. "Do you think I should give it to her?"

I felt Rhys shrug. "If you want."

I hopped off my stool and went to pick Kai up. He mumbled in his sleep and I held him close. Rhys came over and hugged us both.

"You're quite clingy," I said and looked up into his eyes.

"I'm protective," he argued. I snorted and looked out the window before my eyes returned to look back at Kai.

"Rhys," I started. Rhys pulled back and held my hand.

"What is it?" he asked.

"I want another," I said.

"What?" Rhys asked, perplexed.

"I want another child. No, I want more than one," I said and looked at him. He was grinning widely.

"I'm okay with that," he said. "I want more too."

I stood up on my toes and kissed him. "Then maybe we should start trying."

Rhysand's smirked. "Soon, but first let's eat. I'm hungry."

I walked through the halls of Orynth. I was exhausted. I spent most of the day sending out letters and responses around the kingdom. I also saw everybody off as they left. Elide and Lorcan, now on good terms, went back to Perranth with Chaol and Yrene. Dorian and Manon were on a course back to Aldarlan. And Aedion, Lysandra, Evangeline were on their way back to Caraverre. Now it was just Rowan and me, but I was pretty sure Fenrys was still lingering around the palace. With everybody going their separate ways he didn't really have anywhere to go.

I walked into my room and saw Rowan in the armchair near the fireplace reading a book. He looked up as I came in. I walked over and climbed into his lap, yawning as soon as I got comfortable. Rowan sighed and pressed a kiss to my forehead.

"Hello Fireheart," he said softly, dropping his book to the floor so he could wrap his arms around me. "Busy day?"

"Oh my gosh," I groaned. "You don't even know."

Rowan sighed and pulled me closer. "You could have asked me for help."

I smirked. "I can handle it."

"You shouldn't have to though. I'm here for you."

I snuggled into his chest and looked at the fire in the fireplace. It cast small shadows around the room and the fire dance.

"Do you ever miss it?"

I shifted and looked up into Rowan's eyes. His green eyes pierced into mine and I got off of his lap to sit on the floor, closer to the fire. I reached out and a ball of fire dance into my palm. I looked into it.

"Sometimes," I answered. "I miss the security it gave me. I miss the power." I let the fire in my palm go out to look at Rowan. "Does that make me power-hungry?"

Rowan got up to sit next to me. He grabbed my hands and held them in his. He urged me to look up into his eyes.

"Fireheart, you spent years honing that power into a weapon," he said. "It's not surprising you miss it. It's like when you lose your most trustworthy sword."

"But the power was destructive," I said.

"And it's created life," Rowan said. "Without it, we wouldn't be here, with this life."

I gave him a small smile. I turned back to the flames and let go of Rowan's hands. I wrapped my arms around myself and watched the flames.

"Rowan, you've seen that I can handle a kingdom, but do you think I could support a family?" I asked.

I could feel Rowan smiling at me without even having to look at him.

"Aelin, you've already created a family. This court, your friends, they are your family. You look out for them and they look out for you."

I looked back at Rowan. "That's not what I meant."

Rowan smirked. "With my help, you could be a great mother."

I looked back at the flames. "Good," I said. "Because I'm pregnant."
