Six Months Later
Six months later, Noah and I were still happy living together.
Mama was still in good health despite her small stroke nearly nine months ago, but it was easier having Noah around to help. He would hardly let her lift a finger. He was so sweet with her and she absolutely adored him.
Eddie and I were talking again but it was nowhere near how it used to be between us. He still hated Noah and thought that I was making a mistake, but at least we were on speaking terms again. I didn't know how long that would last though as Noah and I had set a date for the wedding and it was soon! It was April now and we planned to get married in May in our local church.
After Christmas and the new year, I was very busy planting all of our new crops ready to be harvested again in autumn and now I was busy planning the wedding.
"Baby!" Noah called out as I was in the crop field, checking how they were growing.
"Yeah?" I called back.
He managed to find me amongst the rows of sweetcorn and kissed my lips softly, "So, I have a surprise for you before I get to work."
Noah was still working at the stables in town in the afternoons after he helped me out at the farm, and he absolutely loved it. He was a natural with horses now and also rode my stallion, Star. He had come far for a man who begged me not to let him go when he first rode a horse, I laughed to myself.
"What surprise?"
"I've booked our honeymoon!"
"What? Where?"
"It's not somewhere really busy so don't worry. I know you don't like these big cities and you prefer the country."
"Tell me, Noah."
"So impatient, baby. I'm taking you to Ireland."
"Wow, that sounds great!"
"Oh, good, I'm glad. It's full of countryside, babe, so you will be happy there. It will be romantic."
"I can't wait, thank you."
"You're welcome. I'm glad you love it. I panicked thinking you were going to shout at me." Noah laughed.
I frowned at him, "I don't shout at you all the time!" I defended myself.
"Ok, baby." Noah put his hands up in surrender. "You know I love your southern fight."
"You better do."
"Have you told Eddie yet?" Noah asked, meaning have I told him the date of our wedding.
"No, not yet." I muttered, looking down at my hands.
"Hal! You're going to have to soon, we get married next month, and you know how he feels about me."
"I know, I know! I will tell him. Maybe after church tomorrow?"
"Ok. I better get going or I will be late to the stables. I will see you tonight, ok?"
I nodded and let him kiss me softly on the lips.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and deepened the kiss, "I will miss you." I told him, after we broke apart.
"I always miss you. Now go and eat something. You missed lunch." Noah chastised me before leaving to get into his truck and head into town.
