Chapter Eleven

My eyes fluttered open with the roosters call and Noah groaned next to me, "I haven't missed that noise... but I have missed waking up to you, beautiful girl. Happy birthday." He told me as his own eyes opened.

I smiled warmly at him and snuggled into his chest, feeling the warmth of his skin against mine. I had missed waking up to him too. I slept better last night but I was still so tired from our night of passionate lovemaking.

"Thank you. I have missed it too. I've missed you so much." I mumbled into his smooth chest.

"Well, you definitely can't get rid of me now." Noah stroked my arm softly.

"I'm so tired." I whinged.

"That's my fault for keeping you up with my high sex drive." Noah laughed.

"I certainly ain't complainin'." I kissed his chest.

Noah inhaled slightly, "Don't get me going again, baby."

"I will try not to!" I laughed. "What are your plans today?"

"Not much. I rang Jill at the stables yesterday and she said the job is still there if I want it, so I will probably go back working there in a couple of days."

"Oh, that's great!"

"I can help you here this morning if you want?"

"Yeah, that would be brill. We better get up and go down for breakfast." I said reluctantly.

Twenty minutes later, we were sat at the table eating scrambled egg on toast while Mama beamed at us both. I shook my head and grinned at her. It was like she's never seen two people in love before, I laughed to myself.

After breakfast, Mama presented me with a card and a small present. I opened the card and thanked her, before unwrapping the square box. Underneath the wrapping, there was a leather box. I gasped as I opened it up to see Daddy's beautiful gold watch. I had always loved this watch.

"Mama..."

"Your daddy always said that he wanted to give it to you on your 21st birthday so it's only fair I carried out his wishes." Mama told me, a tear rolling her cheek which set me off crying.

"Oh, Mama, I love it. Thank you so much." I stood up and went around the table to envelop her in a huge hug.

"Your daddy would be so proud of the woman you have become, sweetie." Mama whispered in my ear.

We broke apart and I wiped my eyes with my long-sleeved jumper and sat back down next to Noah, who was examining the watch, "It's beautiful, Hal, your dad had good taste." He complimented.

"Thank you. I will treasure it forever."

"I'm picking your present up later. I wasn't given much notice." Noah chastised me softly.

I giggled, "Sorry and y'all don't need to get me anythin'."

"Of course I need to buy my girlfriend a present!"

Girlfriend.

I loved that word.

A knock on the porch door made me jump slightly and Eddie's head popped round the door, "Howdy! Where's the birthday girl?" he greeted cheerily.

As soon as he entered through the porch door, his cheeriness was gone and replaced with very angry, piercing, blue eyes, "What the fuck is he doin' here?" he snapped.
