Chapter 7

The next morning at dawn I was awoken by Jasper.

"Rise and shine buttercup." He laughed.

"Shut the hell up." I mumbled and rolled over.

I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist and lift me up. I started wiggling to get out of Jasper's gasp but failed as he threw me over his shoulder and carried me out to the car. He laid me in the back seat before getting into the car himself.

"This is fucked up!" I shouted from my spot in the back.

"Suck it up!" He shouted back. "Don't put that sword back there with her." He spoke to Alistair.

"Where are we going anyway?" I asked sitting up.

"Wherever the hell we want to go." Alistair smiled down at me.

I rolled my eyes as I sat up. I looked out the window as we drove. I saw a few single zombies munching on humans who couldn't run fast enough I assume. Sucks. Sorry if I seem heartless my lovely friends but it's true.

Today the sky actually looked blue. No smoke. No ashes falling from the sky. Blue sky with white fluffy clouds. It looked nice out. Almost like a regular day, but then you see zombies running around and it ruins the happy day image. Don't you think?

"We should stop by a store or something to see if we can gather more food. We should restock if we're going to do a lab search." I spoke up.

"Yes ma'am. Will do." Jasper nodded.

"Maybe you could find stuff to make a few grenades. We don't have that many." Alistair suggested.

"I'll see what these stores have." I agreed happily. I love making grenades. One of my specialties.

Jasper laughed almost like he couldn't believe what he was hearing. The funniest part was, no one else was laughing about it. Alistair and I are being 200% honest about the grenade thing.

"We're being serious bro." I laughed at him. This shut him up quickly.

"Your dad must have been an awesome guy." He stated, clearly still shocked.

I nodded but I didn't smile. It's not the fact that he's dead, but the fact that after my mom left we never were that close again. We only spoke in training and only saw each other during training. Other than that we kept as much distance between us as humanly possible. Or at least as much as the town and the house would allow us.

I felt the car stop moving. I opened my mouth as I looked up but didn't get any closer to saying something. The sight said it all. The road was being blocked by zombies. Not just a small horde like normal but it covered at least as much as my eyes would see. Which wasn't that far. But the moans and groans signaled that there was hundreds of them.

"I've never seen so many in one place before." I whispered mostly to myself.

"This could mean this virus is getting worse." Alistair stated.

"Humanity might not last longer. Including us." Jasper was the first to admit it.

I let out a sigh. This obviously isn't a good sign. This is the biggest horde we'd seen personally, which means this can't be a good thing.

"Let's get out of here, we have stuff to do." Alistair ordered.

Jasper backed up quickly and spun the car around before speeding back the way we came. I laid back down closing my eyes in the process. I didn't wanna see anything else. I just want things to go back to normal. I know this sounds childish but it's true. I miss humanity and I just want to go home and lay in my bed.
