Chapter 4

I woke up in an actual room. Like with a bed and bathroom. Not a small cement room, not tied to a chair. I was able to roam freely. Until I walked over to the door and realized they locked me inside. So much for freedom. These people are starting to piss me off.

"Hello?! Can I get some water or something!?" I shouted as I paced the room.

A minuet later a guy walked in and set a bottle on the table. I grabbed him and smashed his head into the wall with so much force he passes out. Stepping over his body I slipped out the door and down the hallway. I quietly made my way down until I found another locked door. I pulled a bobby pin out of my hair and picked the lock as quickly as I could. Finally the click of the lock sounded and I pushed open the door. There lay Alistair on the bed reminding me of a lovely time in my childhood.

Flashback:

I sat there sharpening my knives as Alistair trained with my dad a bit more. Finally he dropped to the ground panting heavily. I laughed as I watched him making dramatic facial expressions.

"Ready for your turn?" my dad asked.

It had been 3 years since my mom left us making me 8 now. My dad started training me after he left the army, he told me that the government had been planning something for years but he didn't know what, but whatever it was he wanted me and Alistair prepared. Dad had always been paranoid about things the government had planned for the future, I don't know why he thought they'd hurt us. He did work for them at one point.

"Yeah." I nodded standing up.

I got into the fighting stance and continued training.

I tapped his forehead and his eyes popped open. I smiled down at him before helping him up.

"Come on, we gotta find out stuff and get out of here. " I stated.

"Nice to see you too Star." He smiled brightly.

Like Zombieland said, you gotta enjoy the little things. They might not always be around.

"Any idea where the weapons are?" he asked as we jogged down the hallways checking doors.

"Look for locked doors. They would wanna hide them from us invade we escaped." I shrugged, not sure what else to say.

"Did you meet a lady who looked a little like you?" he asked as I picked the next lock.

I nodded trying to focus, he wouldn't let it go.

"What if you found your mom in all this chaos?" he pushed further.

"I'd put a bullet between her eyes." The lock clicked and the door slid open.

Bingo, found the weapons. And I only had to pick like 4 locks, the rooms held four dead bodies that were left to rot. Luckily the brain was disturbed so they weren't turning them into zombies. They might have some humanity left, even if it wasn't them.

We grabbed all of our bags and started searching for the way out. This might take a while, this place is like a damn maze.

Flashback:

Halloween rolled around and instead of trick or treating with other kids I was at home sharpening blades. My dad told me that it was stupid and I should learn something useful, his excuse for everything. Like for Christmas I never got dolls and candy and fun games to play. I always got a weapon. Gun, knives, boxes of ammo, swords, and all that sorta stuff.

And for Halloween I would always take apart weapons and put them back together, sharpen knives, shooting practice, throwing practice. Every year. I always asked for a break but the answer was always no.

I'd ask, "Why do I have to do this? The other kids don't, the normal kids don't."

He's always respond, "Something will come when your older, you need to be prepared because I won't be with you. This family isn't normal darling, I know things that others don't. Because of that you'll survive while they'll be screaming in terror not sure what to do."

After hours of searching we found a door that lead outside. Now we had to slip past the people in the makeshift yard. I took in a deep breath and looked at Alistair. He had the same look on his face, worriedness.

"I say we make a straight shot." He said shrugging.

"If we can run fast enough I think we could do it. That and I have no else what else we could try." I smiled letting out a small laugh.

He smiled back before focusing on the bridge that once was full of zombies, or skin eaters, or walkers, or whatever else you feel like calling them. We glaced at each other before nodding simotaniously, we bolted. I jumped the gate and got to the middle of the bridge before people started shouting. We cleared the other side of the bridge but we knew it wouldn't be that easy. I mean, they took the car and we had all this stuff we had to run with, no way we were dropping it either.

"Stop right there!" Someone shouted.

I couldn't help but scoff, like we'd stop now. If we went through all the trouble to find each other and find the weapons we weren't about to go down easily.

We b-lined it for the woods hoping they'd loose track of us. Eventually the heavy footfalls faded. I knew they wouldn't give up, just slow down.

"We have to find a place for the night, or we run all night." I sighed.

"Think they can climb?" He asked scrunching his eye brows together.

"If we wake up with scratches and bites then we know." I had a sick sense of humor.

He lightly punched me in the arm before we climbed up a tree. We found a cluster of branches that held out weight then curled up after wrapping ourselves in blankets.

* Unknown Persons POV *

We sat under a tree waiting for her the tell us we could come back to the compound. If she let us back in. Since we did loose the two experiments, she's upset.

"Do you really think she'd kick us out?" I asked the guy I was shipped out with.

"She's done it before, so why change now?" he stated firmly.

I let out a sigh not wanting to think about being kicked out of the compound. Just thinking about being out on my own with all this stuff going on scares me.

"I'm going for a walk." I broke the silence as I hopped to my feet.

I walked a little deeper into the woods before stopping and taking in a deep breath. At least the air was fresh and didn't smell a whole lot like death. Just a faint decaying flesh smell. I looked up at the trees and thought I saw people sleeping. Thinking it was just the way the moonlight is shining on the branches I kept walking straight.
