Scarlett's POV
I did not feel like waking up today. Especially since I'm going to school. I dragged my body out of bed at the sound of the annoying alarm and headed to the bathroom to get ready. After I did my business, I came out and dressed up for the day. I wore black skinny jeans with a long sleeved t-shirt and a flannel shirt tied on my waist. I wore black combat boots and tied my hair into a bun leaving a few tendrils to frame my face. I sprayed some perfume Jen got for me. I rather not smell on my first day. I grabbed my black Nike backpack, a new one that I bought yesterday, and took a cursory glance at the mirror. I look good enough.
I went downstairs to eat breakfast. "Morning mom, dad," I greeted my parents. I was surprised to see my mom still here. Even more surprised to see my dad still here. "Morning honey, you look good. You smell even better," my mom complimented me. "Mission accomplished," I chuckled as I sat down on a chair. My mom handed me a plate of two strawberry pancakes. I smiled at her in appreciation. "You do look good hun bun. I'm sure you're nervous though," my dad voiced out.
I let out a breath and looked at him. "To say I'm nervous would be an understatement dad. I'm dying inside."
"Honey, you'll do fine. That's what you said on your first day of high school and you did great," my mom said as she put a hand on my shoulder. "Yeah, but I had Jen, it was kind of easier that way," I told my mom as I looked up at her. "Your mother is right Scarlett. You'll be fine. You are my daughter after all," my father smirked at me. I just gave him a small smile and dug into my breakfast. "Well I'm leaving, I'm already late, but I just had to see my baby girl first," my dad told us as he stood up and kissed my forehead and my mom farewell. "Bye dad, love you,"
"Love you too hun bun. Love you Lizz. I'll see you guys later," and like that my dad was gone. I stood up and washed the dishes. After I was done I turned around and looked at my mom. We stood there and stared at each other for a minute or two. "Mom-" but my mom cut me off. "Baby, I know you're scared. To be honest I'm nervous for you. But I really do know that you'll be fine. I'm going to head out too. Come give me a hug,"
I gave her a huge hug, not wanting to let go. I felt so vulnerable at that moment, so small. I let go and bid her farewell. When she left I looked at the clock. I still had an hour before school started. I took my bag and locked up the house. I went to the garage and climbed on my bike. It got washed yesterday and it looked shiny. Yesterday, which was Sunday, was filled with errands. I had literally left everything to the last minute but to be fair it's not like I was optimistic about anything. I rode my bike through the streets, letting the January wind refresh me. I got to school pretty quickly. There were two cars parked in the lot. That's about it.
I got off, took off my helmet and fixed my hair. I made a beeline for the office. It was small and cozy, the walls covered in blue. The reception desk was overflowing with papers. A cute, old lady was sat behind the desk. Typing away at her ancient computer. There was a name tag on her desk. "Morning Mrs Williams," I greeted her with a monotonous voice as I stood in front of her desk. "Oh morning there, didn't hear you come in. You must be Scarlett McCarthy," she assumed, as her face lit up. I nodded at her, I'm sure she remembers me. She dug in a pile of papers until she found what she was looking for. "Here is your timetable, brochures to school clubs and activities, a slip that all your teachers should sign. Bring it back by the end of the day, and the map to the school. I have highlighted all the shortest paths to take," she told me as she hand me the papers. I thanked her and made my way out of her warm office.
I went out back to my bike and sat my bag on it. Sports club, chess club, maths club, book club. Oh no, I'm not here to get into clubs. I chuckled lightly to myself. I shoved everything in my bag except for my timetable. I had AP English, AP calculus, AP Physics. Spanish, biology and gym. Ugh gym, awesome. I quickly tried to memorize my timetable for the day. More cars started to arrive. They parked further away from me. Good, less encounters for me. Probably because I parked so far away from the school. I decided to go to the cafeteria and wait there. I took my bag and headed there.
