By all means I was supposed to lead a normal life

By all means I was supposed to lead a normal life. I was a non-bender, destined to take over my family's small hotel. That didn't go as planned when three strangers showed up in the market.

Humming to myself, I organized the food in front of me. While my family focused on the hotel, my mother enjoyed running a stall in our local market. It was the perfect way to socialize with the people around us, and to learn of any news about the war. She couldn't make it that day, so I was there in her stead.

So when I spotted three newcomers, my interest was immediately piqued. Two of them were in Water Tribe garb, and the other I was unsure of. It wasn't until they actually neared my booth that I realized. It was the Avatar and his accomplices. Internally freaking out, I tried to settle my nerves, unsure of what would happen next.

Then they walked up. I greeted them with my customary smile, giving no sign that I knew of their importance. The trio returned the smile, looking over the home-baked goods we offered. But I could tell by how antsy they were that it wasn't our goods that they were interested in.

"Can I help you with something other than the food?" I asked, chuckling when all of them seemed to flush in embarrassment.

"We're looking for a place to stay."

The irony seemed to slap me in the face. They likely came up and asked me specifically because I was the one closest in age to them, the most trustworthy. Nodding, I pointed to my home behind, "It's the only hotel in the village. They also have a large barn in the back. You know, if you have any... animals that you want to keep inside."

The group shared less than conspicuous looks and thanked me generously before walking inside the hotel. It wasn't more than five minutes later that the boy, not the Avatar, walked back out and began looking over my food again.
