Minhee couldn't at all pay attention to his class. The lesson confused him. He didn't understand what the teacher was saying, and he was incredibly tired. But he somehow managed to know what he was learning by the end of it. Minhee had good grades, he was popular, and there was a great chance for him to get into a good school.
His mother had went to the university of Seoul. His father went to a small college not far from his mother. But he wasn't such a good man. He often had fights with his wife. Soon, the wife kicked him out. He became homeless. And Minhee never heard from him after that.
Minhee's father never bothered to try and contact them again. And his mother, she became depressed. And very controlling of her son.
She didn't want her son to end up like his father. She wanted him to get good grades in school, to get into not just a good school, her school. She wanted him to do everything she did. She didn't let him choose his own path. She wanted him to be what she wanted. She didn't let him choose what he wanted. She wanted him to be a businessman. Nothing else. But what did Minhee want?
Minhee didn't want to study on Seoul. But he knew he didn't want to end up like his father. And he didn't want to be a businessman like his mom wanted him too. He wanted to be a doctor. He wanted to study abroad. But his mother would never let him. So he kept it a secret to himself. Except from two other people. One, being his best friend, Eunsang. And the other, being the Dohee, the girl that he's completely head over heals for, but he doesn't know who she really is. And he's dying to know.
He messaged her one night, hoping to know more about her. And hoping that he can soon meet her.
What school do you plan to go to?
Even it was a school night, the two spent the entire night texting each other.
My dream was to always go abroad. It was the school my mom went to. - Dohee
Minhee smiled at the message.
I've always planned to go abroad. I just don't know what school. My first choice is Stanford. - Minhee
He waited for a message. He saw her typing right away, and smiled.
Stanford is my first choice as well. I've signed an application already. I'm hoping to hear back soon. - Dohee
Minhee smiled knowing that the two planned to go to the same place.
I plan to be a nurse. Just like my mom. - Dohee
I want to be a doctor. But I'm having trouble if I should go or not - Minhee
Is it too personal to ask why? - Dohee
My mom has always preferred for me to be like her. To go to the same school she went to, have the same carrier she had. But I don't want to do what she wants me. - Minhee
I say you choose what you want to do. It's your choice anyways. And it's also your future. You shouldn't let anyone else decide for you. - Dohee
Minhee smiled at the message. She was incredibly kind and helpful.l towards him. He was falling for her more and more. He was dying to ask.
Are you any busy tomorrow? - Minhee
Even though it had only been a few seconds, he was getting more and more anxious by the second.
His phone buzzed, and he didn't hesitate to go turn it on that second.
I really wish I could. But I'm really busy still. Let's just say I'm not around the nicest people at the moment. - Dohee
Minhee got a bit upset. He wanted to understand, but he couldn't. He decided to let it go.
That's alright. I just really want to meet you. Hopefully soon. - Minhee
He was feeling a bit down. But the thought of her made him smile. Her kindness, he humor, the first time they met - kinda - it all made him smile.
He heard his moms footsteps outside the door. He quickly turned off his light, and pretended he was asleep. The door opened lightly, but then closed right after. He opened one eye, then opened both and stood up. He grabbed his phone and messaged Dohee.
I need to go now. I'll talk with you in the morning. Goodnight. - Minhee
He put his phone down and laid back down with a big smile on his face. How can a girl make him feel like this.
Dohee sat on her desk, surprised by the message. She dropped her phone on the floor, and began banging her head lightly on the table. "I hate myself. I hate myself. I hate myself." She said. "Why am I so stupid?" She muttered.
Footsteps began coming closer to her door. Before she can rush to turn off her lights, the door swung opened, entering Soojin and the twins. "I told you she was still up." Miyoung said.
"She's always up this late doing who knows what. She's probably talking to her stupid friend." Seoyeon said. Dohee wanted to punch her for talking about Junho like that.
"Go to sleep. You're keeping us all up. No wonder your mother couldn't handle you. You're too selfish for your own good. You only think about yourself. Maybe that's who you got that from. Your stupid mother. She was probably even more selfish. Now go to sleep." Soojin said. The three left the room, slamming the door behind them.
Dohee clenched her fist, a tear rolling down her cheek. She slammed the door wide open and started walking down the stairs. "What gives you the right to talk about my mother like that? You have no right to talk about her like that when you-"
Dohee was cut off by Soojin slapping her across the face. Dohee fell to the floor holding onto her cheek, a tear falling down. The twins flinched, obviously never seeing their own mother do something like that, especially to Dohee. "You have no right to talk to me like that. You're just as worthless as your mother. I could kick you out of here any moment and you could just be sleeping in the streets. You should be grateful that I'm even letting you stay here. Go back up to the attic, and don't bother to come down." Soojin said. She left the room, leaving the three there. The twins didn't left not long after, leaving Dohee on the floor all alone.
Dohee began to cry. "I hate you." She muttered. She missed Junho. She missed her dad. She wished her mother was around to be there instead of this witch. She wanted everything to go back to the way it was.
