Lilly picked up the phone and heard the sound of Peggy's voice. "There's a hunting knife on the bathroom sink."
Shit... She thought.
"It has red stains on it." Peggy's voice didn't sound disconcerted in the slightest. She sounded completely put together. Unaffected. "Come back to the dorm. We need to talk." Then the phone hung up. This, of course, wasn't a rude or angry gesture, as Lilly didn't talk, so a goodbye wasn't necessary. The thing that worried her was more the subject matter of the call. If Peggy found out her secret, she'd have to kill her. There was no argument to that. It was the only answer.
Lilly slipped out of Sam's arms and kissed his forehead. She smiled at him tenderly and ran her hand through his messy dirty blond hair. Now she had to leave her nirvana and face reality once again.
She softly closed Sam's dorm room door behind her, as to not wake Sam up and made her way to her dorm room. As she walked, she felt that everyone was staring at her. Everyone knew her true self. Everyone knew the monster she was inside. She was caught.
"Lilly, I think someone snuck into our room last night. Some psycho was getting off to us last night and left his knife in the bathroom." Was the first thing Lilly heard when she opened her door. She took a few things from this. One, Peggy knew nothing about her truth. Two, she was on to Benny sneaking into their room. Three, DID BENNY SEE THEM?! "We have a murderer psycho stalker who saw us have sex!" Peggy seemed more worried about that last point then the rest of what she said. "If my parents find out what we did... They're gonna disown me, Lilly... My family is gonna hate me... Oh my g- I can't believe I did that..."
Lilly put her fears aside for a moment and wrapped her arms around her friend. This was a big deal to Peggy. Lilly didn't understand why. Lilly stabbed her mother to death and didn't think about it much, but Peggy seemed to care about her family and what they thought of her. Maybe Lilly wouldn't ever understand love like that, but she did know she seemed to care about Peggy and that was enough for her.
Peggy accepted the hug for a moment, but quickly pulled away. "We shouldn't do that anymore. I don't want to have these feelings for you anymore. They're dangerous..."
Lilly didn't have any romantic feelings for Peggy, but assumed Peggy had some for her. Either way, Peggy needed to get her hands back on her precious knife. She wasn't sure how to do something like that, seeing as she couldn't simply ask for it.
"I turned the hunting knife over to the police, by the way. Maybe they can track down whoever's stalking us. They suggested that we move Dorm Rooms."
OH SHIT! Lilly didn't even wait for Peggy to finish her sentence. She burst out of her dorm room door and ran down the hallway as fast as she could. This wasn't good. The police had her knife. She was done. She had to get out of Ohio as fast as she could. She had to skip town. She had to jump a train and leave. She had to start anew and change her name. She had to leave it all behind.
But what about Sam? She had to take Sam with her. Sam was the only thing she cared about. She needed him. She couldn't leave him behind. She felt the world swirl around her head as anxiety pounded in her chest. She felt her body collapse to the ground as fear overcame her being. She felt nothing but fear. The world seemed to dim and she felt herself sink through the pavement. Deep into a dark emptiness. She heard the screams of every person who ever met their end by her hands. Jack, Mom, Clarrisa, Evan, Dina, Cansis, John, Tyler... So many people. She had killed so many people and their screams pierced her ears. No matter how hard she tried to black them out, they couldn't be stopped.
