Plan A was to get into the ship and then set it on fire so as to make sure everyone else left. Once everyone was gone, Ignatious would put his own flames out, and the ship would be on its way. People from the shore would simply think that the ship wandered off due to the massive fire. However, with the sudden turn of events, Kane’s plan B was a bit trickier since they didn’t have time to stand in another line. This time, the plan was that Ignatious would set fire to the whole dock so that the entire place would clear out. The four would then “borrow” a ship and take off at once without any more commotion. Still, going out with a bang was not the best idea…

It took a while for Clyde to be convinced that no one would be hurt before he reluctantly agreed to go forward with this plan. Naturally, with the fight that he had just witnessed, the three humans seemed even more out of place than before – not to mention that Anya was still completely unconscious.

“Y-you’re sure about this?” Clyde stammered as they prepared to run.

Kane carried Anya over his shoulder. “Ignatious can control fire as he wishes… It can be hot, cold, or have no affect at all. This one won’t have any affect so nothing will burn.”

Clyde hesitated anyway. What if Ignatious saw this as a way out? A chance to kill them all so that he can go free again? The three of them were about to rush through an enormous flame – it was hard not to imagine that Ignatious was dying to play this practical joke on them.

He was suddenly cut short of this thought because an instant later, there was an explosion and fire roared on the dock. As expected, dozens of people ran about madly while many leaped into the water to avoid the flame. Pandemonium broke out in the entire block within seconds and Kane took this opportunity to dash through it all.

Realizing that this was his cue to follow, Clyde put all doubts beside him and made a run for it. It was only a matter of minutes before the firefighters showed up along with an ambulance and a group of police officers. If the cops caught Clyde, it was all over.

He watched as Kane pushed through the crowd and walked right through the bizarre flame. For a moment, Clyde stood in astonishment, trying his very best to believe what he had just seen. Someone accidentally knocked him down and Clyde refocused himself. He squeezed his eyes shut, and without even thinking, he ran right into the fire…

When he opened his eyes, he saw Kane getting into one of the ships. Clyde took a good look at his hands and legs. They were completely unharmed… There wasn’t a single burn on his body nor did he feel any pain.

“C’mon kid! Get in!” Kane roared over all the noise.

Clyde sprinted over to the ship. They were completely surrounded by fire, so no one could see what they were doing. Clyde rushed into the ship, eager to get off the continent.

“Ignatious!” Kane called. “Get us outta here!”

No sooner did he say this did Ignatious appear and cut the chain that held the ship to the dock. Even stranger however, the Kin neared the side of the ship and gave it a mighty push. Kane and Clyde both fell over as the ship shot hundreds of feet from the dock, sending waves flying in all directions.

Cautiously, Clyde stood and looked back at the already disappearing shore. The flames were rapidly dying and the commotion was easing down. He wasn’t able to look at it for very long because Ignatious flew over to the control cabin and immediately had the ship moving almost sixty miles per hour.

The shore of California was rapidly shrinking. Before Clyde knew it, the beach had turned into a tiny dot with the fire completely extinguished. He let out an enormous sigh and his eyes darted skyward.
