"There ya go!" I say as Jack manages to hit the target with perfect accuracy. I give him a high-five. "Someday you'll be as good as your pops." "I know, Dad. Maybe I'll be even better!" He says. "No way in hell," I respond. I take the gun from him and put a fresh mag in. "Hit the third button from the left," I tell him. He does so and targets pop up. I take out each one with precision accuracy and speed. "Wow! You are really good." Jack says. I hear a chuckle behind me. I look back and I see Mira, along with two new operators. "Hey, love. Who are these two?" I ask. I quickly kiss her and await an answer. "Jason, meet Kali and Wamai. Kali has a bolt-action sniper with an underbarrel explosive that can put out defender gadgets through reinforcements. Wamai has a Mag-Net device that works like Jager's Magpie but moves the grenades instead of destroying them." Elena says. "Well, nice to meet you both. I'm Jason, as she said. Also known as Ultra. My gadget was a grappling hook that could be shot to hook to doors. It'd trip anyone who'd walk through it. I don't use it much because I have my Stand, Ace of Spades." I say and Ace appears. It's a bit harder to control my Stands with my older age, but I make it work. Ace waves and disappears. "I work against cyber-terrorism now, but I used to get onto the field a lot before I settled down." I finish. They tell me a little about themselves and Nighthawk. "Damn, you got an entire base for just you two?" I ask. "Yes, sir. I bought it and we kept it in working order." Kali says. Wamai nods his head. "It was a difficult task, but it was worth the accomplishment." He says. We finish talking and I go back to help Jack train with the gun again.
Once we're done training for the day, I put the gun in its case and carry it back to our house and set it aside to clean later. I step outside again and take a breath. It feels good not to always be on the field. I take a seat on the front porch and grab my guitar. Jack shows up, along with Jade, Ela's 18-year-old daughter, and Ryan, Thermite's 16-year-old son. "Alright, what do y'all want to hear today?" I say to them. "How about Shepherd of Fire?" Ryan says. Shepherd appears. "Yes, Jason. Play my song for them." He says. "Shepherd, no. I always play that song. How about a storytelling song?" I ask them. They nod. I play the opening chords to "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" by The Charlie Daniels Band. "This was a song I liked when I was about your age," I say. I play them the song, and they seem to like it. "Thanks for playing us that song, Uncle Jason," Jade says. She's always called me her uncle for no reason. I'm not even related to Ela or her husband. It's probably because I saved her mother plenty of times before she was born, and she told Jade all about them. Ryan also thanks me and leaves. Jack goes back to his room. "Hey, Uncle Jace, can you help me with something?" Jade asks. "What's wrong?" I say. "One of the recruits got my phone number somehow and sent me this." She says, handing me her phone. I look at it and see a picture of the recruit and the caption that reads "Wanna have some fun? Meet me in the cafe at noon." "Alright, I'll deal with it. You're gonna help me. JACK!" I say. Jack runs down to me. "Yes, I'm here!" He says. "Jade needs our help. We're going to get a recruit at the cafe at noon." I say. Jack smiles. "Alright! Time to see what these recruits can do!" He says. Jack almost looks like a mini version of me when I was his age, but with a little less muscle. It's ten o'clock right now, so I step back inside and see Mira's preparing some food for lunch. "Hey, love. I'm going to the cafe at noon. A recruit was harassing Jade and she asked me for help." I tell her. "Alright, just don't eat anything while you're there. I'm making your favorite." She tells me. I quickly kiss her and go to find a baseball bat. I find one I used on a mission that Blu, Delta, Binary, and I went on once. We mostly messed around because it was such an easy mission. I went around bashing terrorists wit a baseball bat, Binary and Blu used throwing knives only, and Delta tried to execute the terrorists as much as possible. It was a fun mission. Harry couldn't believe that we managed to make it out of that one alive. "Well, I guess putting you four together would be a great comedy show for the others here." He said. "Ah, good memories," I say and carry the bat into the house. Mira sees it and laughs a bit. "I remember that mission you four idiots went on. It was amazing how the results came out." She says. "30 dead, with no friendlies injured!" I say. We both share a laugh. Jack peeks his head out from the stairs. "You two really like that story, huh?" He says. "It's not a story. Let me show you the tape." I say and grab it. I slide it into the player and we watch the tape again. "Alright, Harry said this mission was easy, so let's spice things up a bit. Melee only, and throwing knives count." I say. Binary and Blu get out some knives. I take out the baseball bat that I used then. "Home run time," I say. We go into the building as normal, but once the first terrorist spots us, we scatter and start the challenge. I manage to get most of the kills because I accidentally stumbled upon the room that had the hostage. Blu takes the hostage and we leave the building. It was a successful mission with no friendlies injured, like Mira and I said. "Well, guess it wasn't a story," Jack says. "Yep. I wouldn't lie to you unless I needed to." I say. I look at my watch. "11:30! Let's go, Jack. Go get Jade." I say. He nods and runs to Ela's house. "Time to teach these recruits a lesson, hon. Be back before 1:30. If not, kick my ass." I say. She chuckles and kisses me. "Remember, no eating while you're there." She says. I crack my knuckles and leave the house, bat in hand.
