Kaitlyn's POV
a single orange light shines down on me from what I can see through my half lidded eyes. My body screams and cries as I regain consciousness, but from what I'm not sure. The numb feeling encasing me is gone now, and it feels like I can feel parts of my body that I shouldn't be able to.
I'm not sure where I am, barely remember what happened actually, but I do know I was walking to the spot where Kurt picks me up from school when something pricked me in the neck. After that I'm blank.
"I'm so pleased subject 711 has returned to us, after all these years." A faint voice from behind me pokes out through the silence, and I freeze refusing to look away from the wall not wanting to alert them I'm up. "If you don't mind me asking sir, why now? After all these years?"
"The president has been in good relations with her father for the past few years, and technically we're not even supposed to look at the girl wrong." I keep my lips closed as I realize it's the scientist that kidnapped us all those years ago.
"So what's changed?"
"I just don't give a fuck anymore." He laughs deliriously the sound closing in around me making the tiny room seem even smaller. "This girl and her family are practically mutant royalty."
"But she's not-"
"Correction not yet."

Peter's POV
"What do you mean she wasn't there? That was nearly four hours ago, why am I just now hearing about this?" I shout my fist slamming down on Charles's old desk, but the man hardly moves. "You were in training and taking care of Maddie, and I didn't want to alarm you before checking into it." My dad speaks up carefully pulling me away, but for once I shove him off.
"So since you've clearly figured something out please do enlighten me." They look between each other at least having the decency now to look worried and scared, to show me how they really feel instead of protecting me. "Essex Corp, the one we've been having problems with, picked her up as she was leaving school."
"But why her?" I ask trying to stay calm, and act adult like but that's easier said then done when you're getting news like this. "Honestly it's a miracle we've kept them off of her for this long, I'm assuming it's because their research is finally ready to be tested."
"So you're saying you knew about them, and you never told us?" I demand my voice rising again like boiling water. "We knew something was going to happen to one of us eventually, but we didn't want you guys worried and looking over your shoulder all day." My dad tries to explain, and I scoff loudly and obnoxiously.
When are they going to stop treating me like a child?
"That wasn't your decision to make!"
"Daddy?" I freeze spinning around on my heel my eyes connecting with my daughters purple ones. She rubs at her eyes tiredly her stuffed turtle she got for her birthday clutched in her arms. "Where's Mommy? She has to tuck me in."
"It's okay sweet pea I'll just do-"
"Bu- but... Mommy always does it." She hiccups her eyes instantly filling with tears that are daring to fall. In a way this is Kaitlyn's fault because she's given our daughter unrealistic expectations by tucking her in every night for the past three years.
"Thanks a lot guys because of you now I have to handle this." I growl out hoping my voice is low enough that Maddie doesn't hear me.
Ignoring how both of them instantly inch towards her I pick her up, even though she's getting heavier, and walk towards the door. However I stop briefly in threshold my grip tightening on Maddie this feeling sadly all to familiar. "Find my wife."
