Maxine POV
Slipping on the black heels and the matching jewellery I peered into the full length mirror in my bedroom and felt all of the nerves return. The butterflies were having a party in my stomach. Did I look okay? The emerald green dress was new and still had that new dress smell, the heels gave me an extra inch or so, hopefully I would finally be as tall as Johnny. A black heart locket on a chain that sat on the skin just above the sweetheart neckline of the dress, my enormously long hair was pulled into a high ponytail, I had been debating whether or not to braid it earlier on.
Oh god, I wonder what Johnny wanted to see me for? I mean he never asked me on a date. I guess we did “go out”, but never get-dressed-up-go-out. I twisted and observed every curve and line on my body, trying to see if everything sat perfectly. I couldn’t help the clammy feeling that clung to my palms, taking a heaving breath in I thought about everything that Johnny could possibly want to tell me. Did he want to breakup with me? Was their another woman? Did he get her pregnant?
‘No Maxine Grimm,’ I pointed a finger at my reflection angrily, ‘you are going to keep cool and not make a huge deal out of this. Johnny loves you and he would never cheat on you’With that I turned away from the mirror, grabbed my clutch and headed out. I had had most of the day to myself since Ben, Reed and Sue had gone out on a few errands. No doubt having to fill the fridge up again, today Sue was craving ham and had almost bitten off Reed’s head when he said that he couldn’t go out right now. Worst mistake ever! You NEVER and I repeat NEVER argue with a pregnant woman…especially a pregnant Sue. I was halfway down the hallway towards the elevator when my phone buzzed, signalling that I had gotten a text. Frowning slightly I looked at the message,
Black limo downstairs, just for you Max
Johnny
I was smiling the whole way down to the bottom floor. The elevator pinged and there was no one in sight as I headed out of the revolving doors and into the cold night air. A sleek, shining coal black limousine was parked silently out on the curb. The driver hopped out and opened the door for me I climbed in and looked around the limousine for Johnny. Only for it to be completely empty. My grin diminished, oh, I would have thought he was waiting for me. I clasped my hands around my clutch as the car rumbled to life.
‘There’s champagne in the fridge to your left Miss Grimm’ the driver piped up from the front.
‘Thank you’ I mumbled, disappointed, but happy that the champagne was strong, I chugged down a whole glass in one mouthful. It was maybe an understatement to say that I was a tad nervous. I cranked up the AC in the car to stop myself from sweating. This was ridiculous I needed to just calm down. It was Johnny, you are yourself around him Maxine, just relax. Five minutes later the car stopped at a huge skyrise deep in the city. Curious, it didn’t seem like anything fancy. Suddenly my door opened and there was Johnny dressed in a tux with a huge smirk on his face.
‘Max’ he greeted and extended his arm out for me. I took it, the smile returning to my face.
‘Hey Johnny, why the secrecy?’ there was a little too much anxiety in my voice. I knew Johnny could hear it as he wrapped an arm around my waist.
‘Don’t sound so nervous. I wanted this to be special’ he explained.Naveen POV
I grit my teeth and did a little jump on the spot for the thousandth time. I let out a little squeal, barely containing myself,
‘Naveen will you calm down, you’re making me nervous’ Tony said from down the line. I leaned over and gave him a death glare.
‘Can you not be so cynical? My best friend is about to get engaged’ the smile consumed my face entirely and I had to stop myself or I’d topple over the edge of the building.
‘Hey I thought I was your best friend Vee’ Clint protested from his spot beside Natasha, as he had a huge white letter “o” hanging from his neck.
