❝I'm trying to forget you but I'm also waiting for you to come back.❞ - Unknown

Juliet's POV.

I washed the dishes, my thoughts going astray. I was thinking about Killian, about my old life. About this house, what secrets were kept hidden in it. I know I shouldn't, I have been trying to convince myself of that ever since I started avoiding Killian.

Avoiding Killian, what a joke. More like hiding like a scared mouse when I saw him around the house vaguely, asking other staff to deliver his breakfast when I was supposed to, only cleaning his office when I was sure he would be gone a while.

I don't know what changed. Last Thursday was perfect, magical even. He took me to a hidden lake spot behind this humongous house. We didn't talk much or did anything other than sit in silence, but I loved it. Being in his presence gave me more comfort than I have ever felt.

-flashback-

"Thanks for bringing to me this place. It's breathtaking." I whispered tucking my hair behind my ear as we walked back towards the house.

He was walking beside me in silence and suddenly looked up when I spoke. He stared into my eyes, my body flushing under his intense stare, "I know. Nothing prettier than what I see though."

-end of flashback-

I had shut up after that comment. I didn't know what to make of it, if he even meant it for me or not. My heart didn't second-guess though. It jumped and stuttered, beating like a lion in its cage, clawing to get free.

Which is exactly why I should stay away. Protect myself and tame my lion heart before it becomes too deranged to stop.

All I knew about Killian was that he was involved in something dangerous. Something I want no part in. Oh, and can't forget his bipolar tendencies.

It's better staying safe than being sorry.

"You are avoiding me."

I squeaked and turned around. Killian came into my line of sight, hands deep in pocket as he stared at me plainly.

I was at the lake spot; the one he showed me. It just gave me so much peace and I didn't think he would come here. I mean, he is a busy man from what I see every day. Constant meetings, some business ones and a few with shady looking people.

"Aren't you? You think you are so smart, turning the other way whenever I am around," He took a step forward as I took one backward. He continued, "Looking away when our eyes meet. Avoiding me like the plague." He backed me up against a lone thick tree. I shuddered when his palms slapped against the trunk, on either side of my head. He stared into my eyes then at my lips, alternating between the two.
