CHAPTER SEVEN,
FIRSTS.
JOANNA HASN'T been outside of the house for what felt like ages. So she was beyond excited when she got the chance to go out with Violet tonight. To be honest, she felt nervous all around about the whole... meeting, hangout, date? Joanna isn't entirely sure what to call it. She doesn't want to read too much into the details. All she knows is that if she still had a living and functioning heart, it'd be beating erratically right about now.
The two were over at the beach at night, Joanna intent on being as far away from the house (and Tate) as possible. It was beautiful and peaceful and peace was something the girl seldom felt. Not only was she happy but it was an added plus having Violet by her side. The girls were sitting side by side, watching the waves in front of them.
"This place is cool," Violet noted and Joanna's attention is drawn back to the girl sitting closely beside her. Occasionally, their shoulders would brush and skin would softly rub against skin. The slightest touch was enough to make Joanna's heart do a back flip.
"Yeah, I've only been here a couple times," Joanna shrugged. The truth? She had only been here once with Tate - back when they were too close. Back when they only had each other.
"Do you go here to draw and stuff?"
"Nah, I usually stay home for that. I really don't like going out much."
"I've noticed. Every time I see you, it's always at the house. Don't you ever wanna do something else?"
Joanna shrugged in response, unsure of how to properly answer. She couldn't tell her the truth - that she would never be able to explore and travel the world. She'd forever be bound to that miserable house, sucking away on whatever little life source she had left.
Violet luckily doesn't take much notice in Joanna's sudden reluctance to talk. "Well, what else do you like to do besides drawing? You like YouTube?"
"What's YouTube?" Joanna asked, brows furrowed in confusion. The word sounded funny and it's nothing Joanna's ever heard.
"You don't know what YouTube is?" Violet asked, giggling once more, "You weren't kidding when you said you hardly go out. Don't worry, I'll show you later. I don't think there's any wifi out here anyways."
Joanna wanted to ask what wifi was too but she didn't want to embarrass herself anymore than she already had.
"Alright then, Jo. What's your favorite song?"
Joanna's slightly taken by surprise at the sudden question but she smiles nonetheless, happy to answer. No one asks about her anyways. No one except for Violet. "Smells like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. How about you?"
