"A handicapped miracle that one day will run a business and be a published author, that was the dream, that dream now manifested in the pages you are reading, I was a success, the boss, the big man, the head honcho, the big cheese.
Enough about food and big things, the biggest thing awaits in this chapter"
I guess for the first years of my life I was pretty content on not knowing the end or what was next in the slew of procedures I would endure over my lifetime, I was happy knowing that I was able to play and be a happy kid for a while.
That is until I started hearing one word repeatedly: "MIRACLE"
People who knew my story kept calling me a miracle, and it wasn't until years later that I understood why they kept calling me a miracle.
I had always heard other words and phrases such as: CRIPPLE, LOSER, NO LEGS, RETARD and the ever so nice: YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABORTED, YOU USELESS TRAIN WRECK.
It wasn't until years later when I started hearing those comments that I knew it was time to stand up for myself, so that's exactly what I did.
With the help of my parents, I drafted a letter of which I was going to read to my class on a Friday during free time.
A letter expressing my feelings of being labeled as previously written.
So I read the letter, and every single student stared at me, eyes either glassed over with boredom or beaming with curiosity, I couldn't tell because part of me was teeming with the anger bubbling inside me, ready to blow like Krakatoa.
After finishing the letter, I heard a slew of mutters, some were mean, some were O.K., some sounded like plain old gibberish.
But that's what you get when you put a guy in a suit in a wheelchair in front of high schoolers.
"High schoolers are so mean, they think it's cool to make fun of a guy in a wheelchair who's trying to stand up for himself.
God save the day when I'm able to stand up for myself"
