Caleb stands on the stage in street clothes with a microphone in hand, and the crowd's on the edge of their seats. There have been rumors floating around saying that he might retire, but nothing has been confirmed for them. The only thing that the WWE Universe knows is that Caleb's got an announcement to make regarding his leg. 'Spiteful' plays, and Alexa joins him on stage. They walk down to the ring hand-in-hand, and he holds the rope for her so that she can enter the ring.
"So," Caleb starts, and the crowd is dead silent. No one wants to miss a word of this, "I have some news regarding my leg. As you all know, I absolutely wrecked it a while ago during a title match, and I had to undergo a few surgeries to be able to walk again... and I'm healing up just fine."
The crowd starts cheering for their hero, but a smile does not come to his face. They go quiet again, fearing the worst. Tears come to his eyes as he goes over what he's about to say next.
He continues, "It's with a heavy heart that I have to announce my retirement from wrestling. There is no foreseeable future where my leg would be stable enough to support me in a match of any kind."
Cue the "No" chants from the crowd. This has to be some sort of joke or ploy... but it's not. Alexa's crying now, gripping his hand so tightly that her knuckles have turned ghost white. The crowd is in utter disbelief: The mighty Caleb Quantum has fallen.
"So without further ado, I'd like to get this over with as quickly as possible: Bring out Genocide."
Genocide's theme plays, and they all come out through the curtain in their street clothes. Half of them have been crying and the other half is about to cry. A couple of them have microphones.
"So this is how it ends, huh guys? The leader takes out his leg, and here we are today. I'm going to be honest, I'll miss all of you. Bayley, I want to personally thank you first. We've been friends ever since our NXT days, and I'm being honest when I say that I'll miss your hugs."
Bayley, one of the ones in tears, manages to say, "I'll miss you too, Caleb." They hug, and Caleb pretends to not be able to breath. Bayley breaks away and starts crying into Finn's shoulder.
"I know that you're kind of occupied, but I've got an order here. Finny's next. I'll tell you one thing for certain: You'll never find a better drinking buddy than Finn, even more than ol' 8 months over there. It's gonna suck not having you around, my Irish friend."
They share a quick fist bump and hug, as Finn understands what needs to happen. Caleb only has a certain amount of time before he needs to end this. It all has to happen in one segment. He turns to Seth and Becky, who look like they're about to start bawling. Seth's already got tears in his eyes, and Becky's trying to pretend she doesn't.
Caleb speaks again, trying to fight the breaking of his voice, "Of course, there's you two, my best buds in the whole world. We've been through hell together, I'll tell ya that much. We've pushed each other to our absolute limits, and I'm grateful for that. Whether or not y'all leave once the baby is born is anyone's guess, but I hope you stay. You both have so much left to do."
Caleb hugs both of them as tight as he can, minding the baby. Finally, he turns to his girlfriend. She's been bawling this entire time.
"Look where we are now, huh Lex? We've come pretty far, I'd say. Now before I do what I'm about to do, I want everyone to know that this wasn't part of the script, which I wrote. This is a surprise for everyone."
Caleb pulls something out of his pocket and gets down on his good knee, and the crowd erupts. The members of Genocide are either laughing or really crying now.
"Alexis Kaufman, I don't have a lot to say that you can't pick right out of my brain right now, but I'll do it for their sake. I can't imagine waking up next to anyone but you, Lexi. God knows I tried, but it just didn't work. So for that reason I ask that you join me for whatever's next in this crazy piece of shit called life... whatever's after that, too. Will you marry me?"
Alexis nods and wraps him in an enormous hug, listening to the crowd chant their names. She doesn't want this moment to end, but at least they have the rest of their lives.
