Haley and Luke sat on the ledge of the pool, swinging their feet in the water. It was one of the rare days we all had a free day, so decided to take advantage of the lovely Los Angeles sun. He was an actor, she was a beauty guru on YouTube. They've been my two closet friends since I moved out here. They weren't dating then, but after a couple months of pushing them to at least talk about their undenying feelings for each other, they finally went out and have been together for almost two years now.
"Haley Lynn," Luke said, using Haley's full name. She looked at him, her face makeup glistening under the sun. Just get in the water."
"No. My makeup is too expensive to get wet-" She began to say but was cut off when Luke pushed her into the water. She popped back up and gave him an angry look.
"Lucas Michael!" She yelled as she climbed out of the pool. He stood up just as she pushed his chest, causing a loud slap against the water.
"Oo, good one, Hales." I clapped from my chair and repositioned my sunglasses. She bowed as Luke pulled himself out of the water. Her makeup was no a complete mess all over her face.
"Now I am going to go clean off my face because someone decided they wanted to be an ahole today." She said sarcastically and trailed off into the house. Luke got up and followed right behind her. My phone began ringing from beside me.
"Hello?" I held the phone to my ear and sat up in my seat.
"Hey, what's up?" Zach said on the other side. All of the boys had grown to be good friends. All except, of course, Daniel. I hated how quiet he was. It intimated me in a way. And especially after what that Alexis girl had said, I really just wanted to know his true depths.
"Not much, just having a pool day with some friends. Why, what's up?" As I continued talking, Luke and Haley stepped back out to the pool. Luke ran and jumped into the pool, making the water spill over the edge.
"Ah the boys wanted to see if you wanted to hang out over here. But if you're busy don't worry about it."
"Well why don't you guys just come over here?"
Haley's head snapped back at me. She wiggled her eyebrows at me as she sat next to me. I rolled my eyes playfully and laughed softly.
"Sounds fun, send me your address and we'll be over!"
Our small party of three soon turned into a party of ten. Jonah and Jack brought along their girlfriends, Tate and Gabbie, which made Haley and I happy so we weren't too outnumbered by the guys. Luke and the boys quickly got along and were now throwing each other around the pool.
"I'm gonna go grab a drink, do you guys want anything?" I asked as I stood up. They all shook their heads in response and I walked back inside. While I was standing in the kitchen, the sound of water droplets on the floor got louder as they made their way to the kitchen. And of all people, walked in Daniel. I couldn't help but admire his toned stomach that looked a hell of a lot more attractive under the droplets of water.
"H-Hey." He stuttered as if he were nervous.
"Hi, Daniel." I said softly. I could feel heat rise to my cheeks as I looked away. Why does he make me feel like this? I've barely said two words to him.
"I just wanted to apologize for the night of the party. I didn't know you were in my room." He looked down a bit. Now I understood it when Jonah said he was shy.
"It's fine really. I shouldn't have been in there anyways." I looked up at him as our eyes locked. He laughed slightly and flashed a smile. He had a small gap in between his teeth, and for whatever reason it made him so much more intriguing. We sat there and just looked at each other for what seemed like forever. But I was soon sent back to reality as more of the boys came in.
"Malia, we have a great idea." Jack said as he leaned against the counter. I tilted my head at him. "Since the sun is starting to go down, how about we have a bonfire? We noticed the fire pit by the patio and figured we'd ask."
"And Daniel here can sing us a little something? The man has a voice of an angel." Corbyn jumped in, nudging Daniel's side.
"I don't see why not." I agreed and shrugged. The boys all cheered loudly in excitement. "I have a guitar in my room if you wanna use that too?"
"Yea, I dabble in guitar." Daniel smiled a bit.
"Dabble isn't quit the word. Daniel is a musical genius." Jonah said before leaving the room. Daniel's face grew red as the boys went out to start the fire. I turned to walk up to my room, but Daniel's voice cut me off.
"She's not my girlfriend, by the way." He said softly, but loud enough that I could hear him. I turnt back around and tilted my head.
"Who?" I knew who he meant, but I wanted to see where this was exactly going.
"Alexis. She's not my girlfriend." He tried to keep a straight face, but failed terribly. I nodded and bit my lip to keep myself from smiling.
"Nice to know." I smiled weakly at him and turnt back around to go to my room.
We all sat around the fire on the different pieces of patio furniture. The sunset was all different shades of pinks and oranges. It was absolutely beautiful. The couples cuddled against each other while Corbyn, Zach, and I sat on the big couch. Daniel sat on the chair with the guitar on his lap. He tuned the old thing to where he wanted.
"Any requests?" He asked and lifted his head. The group sat in silence as we all thought of something.
"Do you know anything by Ed Sheeran?" I asked the cliche question. Ed Sheeran was genuinely one of my most favorite artists out there. Daniel smiled and nodded. His fingers began to strum the familiar tune.
"You are the one girl, and you know that it's true. I'm feeling younger, everytime that I'm alone with you.."
Corbyn was right. Daniel's voice was beautiful. It was rough and raw, but nonetheless breathtaking. He closed his eyes as he sang the song, his fingers running along the strings effortlessly. Passion flew threw his words as he continued on with the song.
"I'll be taking my time, spending my life, falling deeper in love with you. So tell me that you love me too."
He opened his eyes, his eyes instantly locking with mine. And that's when I knew I had to do everything I could to get to know this boy.
