It was nearing the end of our photoshoot, Aliviya was taking the final shots of Luke standing underneath the pier of a small beach we somehow needed up. Haley and I sat on a blanket nearby, talking away about whatever our minds came up with. The sun was setting beautifully over the water, the sky full of different shades of pink and orange."So, have you talked to Aedan? I know you said he hasn't called in a bit." Haley looked over at me, bringing her knees to her chest.
"He called this morning actually." I sighed and flipped over my phone screen. Daniel didn't text me all day. I didn't want to think of it too much, maybe he was just busy. "But it wasn't long. The crew pulled him away before we could really talk."
"Well that's good, at least. How is he?"
I didn't want to tell Haley about Aedan being high. Because maybe it was a one time thing. Maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought. All I knew was I wasn't going to tell anyone unless I really needed to.
"He's fine. He's living out his dream." I looked over at her. She gave me a frown and placed her hand over mine.
"Now are you okay? You seem a little off today."
"I'm fine, really. Just a little tired I guess." I gave her a weak, reassuring smile. My phone began ringing, revealing Jack's name. I held a finger and stood up. As I answered the phone, I walked away a bit to hear him better.
"Hey, Jack, what's up?" I asked and crossed my arms. The slight beach breeze hit my arms, sending shivers down my body.
"Hey, Malia! Just wanted to see if you were coming to Corey's party? I know Daniel said he mentioned it to you." Jack said through the phone. I heard the faint sound of a baby giggling in the background.
"I don't know yet." I looked over at my friends, seeing Luke and Aliviya now sitting with Haley. "Have you heard from Daniel? He said he'd call me after he left my house but he never did."
"He just left my house about an hour ago, he said he was going to one of his friends house before the party. But when was he at your house? He told us he was with Alexis last night and came straight here?"
What?
"He stopped by last night, I guess before he went over there. It was for like 10 minutes though. He thought he forgot something from the day you guys came over." I tried to play it off. Why would he say he was with Alexis? Did he not want people to know he was with me? My heart sunk at the thoughts running through my head. I turned to look at my friends again, an idea growing in my head. "Hey, Jack, I have to go, but I'll see you at the party?"
"Oh so you are coming! Sick, I'll tell the guys."
We said our goodbyes as I walked back over to Aliviya, Haley, and Luke. They all looked up at me.
"Who wants to go to a party tonight?"
