MICHAEL CHAZ

My whole life, people have told me that I am too emotionless and I had always thought them to be jealous of my unparalleled intellect. I had developed numerous weapons for humanity to combat the mythical beings that roam in the furthest recesses of the planet. Weapons of mass destruction.  However, I witnessed the horrific side of man, the massacre of countless innocent mythical beings. All for the sake of rapid development in humanity's favour. I have sinned beyond redemption and now I await trial for the sin I have not occurred, murder. I was in chains underwater. The Expiscari were under the rationale that I had slaughtered their brethren. To be framed by the very people you sought to protect is another level of betrayal.

"You have been brought to our home, the Mariana Trench to await trial, lowly human.  A word of warning if you consider escaping. the suit you are currently wearing is made from a special volatile material, produced naturally by our people. It insulates heat and is flexible but the moment you breach the city walls, the suit will evaporate and you will experience the tremendous pressure of the sea so I wouldn't recommend it," said the rather malnourished Expiscari standing before me.

I knew most of the mythical creatures on the planet as I have studied their anatomy. The Expiscari were known for their graceful aquatic performances and friendly attitude but that was before the war. Their most useful ability is communication with aquatic animals and their craftmanship. It is said that weapons made by the Expiscari can cut trough any material as it requires a rather devastating toll. These weapons had to be crafted using their very life essence. Fortunately, it will only work if the said Expiscari gives it's consent. I know this too well. Their screams kept bouncing back and forth in my head.

"How can I prove my innocence? I was under the influence of a serum! I swear I didn't do it of my own accord and I hated every second of it," I whimpered as I stared at the ceiling in absolute empathy. I definitely understood what they felt. They had lost their kin just as I had lost mine.

"There is no innocence. You have already been judged guilty. The trial is just to determine the severity of your punishment. Personally, I would prefer public execution but our people have not lost their sense of justice despite the upcoming war that you humans yourselves have declared," replied the scaly creature.

It was so dim that I could barely see the Expiscari. It had webbed hands and feet and was had scales a bright shade of blue with black eyes. Curiosity got the best of me. " By the way how do you see down here? Must be a hustle."

"The Expiscari are naturally blind. We use echolocation  as a means of sight so we didn't see the purpose of wasting energy for the sole purpose of lighting the depths," replied the Expiscari before leaving my cell.

I scanned my cell for anything useful for my escape. I needed only one weapon, my brain. The room was poorly decorated. The rocky were bare except for the growing moss. There were no beds but what was the point when I was continuously floating? No toilets so this facility must not hold prisoners captive for long periods of time.

"The presence of the moss should indicate that the temperature in here is normal at higher levels of the sea. Not only that, how do this people have freshwater in the sea? Moss can't grow in saltwater," I deducted.

I went to the only window in the cell if you could call it a window as bars of what looked like spiny sea urchins were in place of glass. I tried to look between the gaps of the bars to see a world of wonders. The Mariana Trench, one of the deepest places on Earth, was glowing in brilliance and I had no clue to as how they do it. Somehow coral was  growing in the area and they seemed to display various types of colours, giving the area a wonder mash of colours. It was bright enough outside that I could finally see the Expiscari thriving in their natural habitat. They had bulbous heads, mostly thin frames and long tails with the males having a sharp barbed tail. I know for a fact that there are glands in those tails that secrets deadly toxins at will.

"I have to admit that this is the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life," I monologued to myself.

At that moment, the doors to the cell slammed open and two Expiscari guards came in and there was a girl with the. She clearly looked out of her element, swimming in the water. Her suit that was exactly the same as mine showed that she needed air to breath. She looked human but then again, not everything is as it seems especially since the existence of the mythical creatures came into light.

"Hi, are you..... what was it?  Matthew?" said the girl in a rather squeaky voice.

"It's Michael... Michael Chaz," I relied while extending my hand. To my surprise, she shaked my hand gleefully, doesn't she know what I was allegedly convicted of doing.

"Charmed. My name is Cecilia Von Amoret and I'll be your judge today," said the girl.

Now I was confused. "Wait, why are you here? Are we doing the trial here? Where's my lawyer? Where's the court room?"

"Woah... hold your horses there, cowboy. First of all, a trial in the mythical being community is nothing like how you humans doing it. Yes, the trial is being held here. Yes, we're doing it now and what exactly is a lawyer?" Cecilia answered.

I felt my jaw literally drop. Maybe I was going to die down here. "So it's just you and me?"

"Well technically, its you, me and these two brutes I brought along," she replied.

"Last question, why the hell are in league with them, I thought they were the enemy!" I said in anger.

Cecilia responded by laughing uncontrollably. "That's right, I forgot to mention it. My kind along with the vampires are experts in blending in with the humans. What exactly do you think I am, Mr. Michael?"

I was now more baffled than enraged. "What the heck are you blabbering on about? You're just like me aren't you? A Hum...." That was when it hit me. She said her kind were experts in integrating into human society. There were only a few types of mythical creatures  that I have yet to encounter as not many specimens have been captured. One of them would be the vampire and the other would be.....

Cecilia had a broad grin on her face now at the sight of my realisation. "I heard you were smart. That's right. I'm a lycanthrope, what you humans normally call a werewolf."

I was now alone again. The only human in the room. Shit!
