Derek withdrew his gun from my temple as he moved back to avoid his throat from being slit by a swing blade. An Expiscari stood at the door, sword in hand.
"You have a death wish, little fishy?" said Derek, his voice laced with malice.
The Expiscari before me was anything but small. It was still hard to see but the outline of its muscular build was obvious and yet I knew, I knew he was no match for Derek.
"I am General Cl...."
The blood immediately coloured the water red as the bullet tore trough its head. I was astonished when I saw the firearm in Derek's hand.
"You didn't think I'd come here without being prepared, did you?" said Derek as he held the APS underwater water rifle in his arms.
"Where did you get that? I thought most of the guns from then were destroyed?"
Derek could only laugh. "In an era where people only use plasma or sonic guns, people would not think to sell of family heirlooms like this one. I may be old fashioned but I always get the job done."
The sirens started blaring again suddenly. A nearby explosion startled me as Derek answered someone contacting him trough the coms. He swam towards the hole in the wall, only for his jaw to slack in shock. On the other side of the trench, humans were being massacred as their ships were ripped apart by three huge sharks, Megaladons!
"Never thought this worthless kind would go on such an aggresive offence," remarked Derek.
"What happens to me now?" I asked.
"Prof, let me tell you something. If I wanted you dead, you would already be dead. I wanted to send you a message; Live your life, turn tail and run away. This isn't your fight and this is my first and final warning. If I see you on the battlefield again, I'll kill you without so much as a second thought," said Derek as he swam away.
That was it, Derek was gone. This was my cue to run away, I could use the distraction to flee easily but I knew I couldn't do it. Cecilia needed me but I needed contingency plan in case things with Derek went south. I turned facing back towards the ship and scavenged anything useable. Things could get nasty real fast.

I could immediately sense something was off the moment me and Apache teleported at the opening of the Mariana Trench, I had casted the underwater breathing spell on both of us. The murky depths of the trench was erupting in a variety of colour. We went in closer for a better look when a stray plasma energy shot past us. Instinctively, Apache blended in with the murky depths.
"What was that?" he asked.
"That my friend, was a plasma blast. It seems that the Expiscari are in trouble, they're being invaded."
"Are we gonna help them?" he asked.
"Of course, we just need a plan that won't lead to our doom and utter demise," I say with a bright smile.
Apache sighed. "I'm not exactly in my element here, my tail can't slither in water, I can't help at all."
I took a moment to figure out our next course of action. "All right then, Apache, you stay here and try to capture any unsuspecting prisoner. We'll need all the info we can get if we want to stop the humans from any further conflict."
"And what will you be doing?" he asked me.
I smirked. "I'm gonna give them hell!"
