As I was walking to Chakra, I felt eyes following me. It was strange, no matter how much I looked around me I never noticed anything out of the ordinary. No faces seemed familiar, no souls did I recognise. But I still couldn't shake off the feeling that somebody was watching me. So, I hastened my step and quickly arrived at Chakra.
I greeted Larry, walked down the hallway, and when I opened the door to the training room, I was surprised to see Hector sitting with two other people waiting there with him. It was a man holding a bag in his hands and a woman, and the woman did look familiar at first. It took me a moment until I remembered her as one of the Shamans who had visited me in the hospital. I struggled to remember her name as I stepped into the room, so I simply said, "Hello."
She was about to speak when Hector got to his feet and said, "Conrad, these two are Spectrologists from Soul Guard. They're here to test your soul." I could tell he wasn't too happy as he grunted to them and sat back down, lacing his fingers.
The woman was the first to step forward, the man staying a bit back. She had a smile on her face with her hand already out to shake mine and said, "Good to see you again. You probably don't remember me; my name is Chioma and this is Raoul. As Hector's already explained, we're here to test your soul. Given its anomalous origin, these tests will be weekly things to see the progression of your soul during your training."
"O – okay." I nodded.
"We'll try to be quick," Raoul said with a friendly smile.
"So, what are you going to do?" I asked.
"It'll be too much of a hassle to explain." Chioma said and nodded to Raoul, who opened up his bag and started pulling out different equipment. I noted the ones that looked like pens, scalpels, and an odd-looking device with a screen. All of them had sigils softly glowing on them.
"Why don't you take a . . . seat?" Chioma looked around and noticed the only seats were on the other side of the room. So, she sighed and said, "You know, just sit here." There was a sudden change to her soul, something I couldn't quite understand. It was like her presence, her aura, had shifted. She lifted her hand, her fingers playing like deranged conductors, and the spiritual energy responded like an unwilling choir. I saw it bend and twist, coalesce and solidify, and before my eyes a multi-coloured chair appeared.
"Whoa!" I took a step back, my eyes wide as I looked at the chair and then at her. She had a grin on her face from my reaction and looked back to Raoul, who was also smiling. Hector was not.
"Don't be alarmed," she said. "I just crafted a chair for you to sit on."
"H – how did you do that?"
"Well," she looked at Hector, "I'm sure that's a lesson for your teacher to give you. For now, take a seat and let's get this started."
"Can I touch it?" I asked, intrigued as I took a small step closer to it.
"Go ahead."
I prodded the chair and was alarmed at how it felt. It didn't feel like wood, instead it just felt solid. Like there was just some barrier there that I couldn't touch. The spiritual energy was still swirling within the chair, but it didn't break its form. So, I sat down on it, half-fearing the whole thing would dissolve and I'd land on my ass.
"Please remove your necklace," Chioma requested and so I obliged. As the full force of my spiritual energy poured out, Raoul made an "Oof," sound as he stumbled back.
"S – sorry." I awkwardly said.
Chioma ignored that and brought the scalpel out, which caused me to flinch as she brought it close to my arm.
