FIVE LETTERS WERE THE DESTRUCTION- of Lara Jean Covey. Who would have known it was that simple for her to fall into the snaring trap of love? Why did she have to be so stupid? Why did she have to write those letters in the first place? Why, just, why?

It's hard to imagine how five simple letters of her professing her undying love to each boy that she had a MASSIVE crush could ruin her. But after those words were written down on paper, the feelings vanquished. As if the only way to lose feelings was to write them down on a single paper and seal it off. Lara Jean should have known better than to hide them in a hatbox, but she did it anyway.

It wasn't like she had anything to worry about. The letters were hidden in that teal hatbox, where only she alone knew about them. And from the countless sweaters and other clothes she had left to lie around her room, it wasn't like anyone was going to find them that easily.

So maybe that was why it was so easy for her to forget the thing that could be her downfall. People had said many things about love. But what stuck the most was the lyrics of that old song "what is love? baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me, no more," it didn't seem like love was that easy to destroy someone's heart. Only she was wrong.

LARA JEAN LAUGHED AS SHE WALKED- down the halls of East High with her best friend Chris right beside her. The two had been accompanied by the water polo team and of course, the rest of Lara Jean's cheer team. Popularity with the seniors had sparked ever since the teenage girl had gotten out of her shell at the start of her new life at high school. Things couldn't get better.
