IN OTHER WORDS, NEVER LET YOUR FATHER KNOW THAT— you have a boyfriend. Let alone, let your sister find out and tell your father. Let's just say it took some awkward jokes from both Covey sisters and Chris himself to soothe the tension that Kitty had just so happened to intentionally spill to her father. Had it not been for the jokes, maybe their father wouldn't have found the urge to smile through his beef stew every once in a while. But everyone knew that the subject couldn't be avoided.

"So who is he? This boyfriend of yours?" Their father asked as he finally asked the long-awaited question.

First things first. Lara Jean shot her sister a withering glare, she clutched the fork she held in her hand with such a tightening grip that had it not been made out of metal she would have snapped it right then and there. Of course, she was thrilled to see Kitty shrink back down in her seat. Which meant she had done some of her job as an older sister. And now, she had to deal with the worst part.

"Ricky Bowen," Lara Jean mumbled as she shoved a forkful of dinner in her mouth while drawing away from the long stare that her father gave her.

"Now that makes more sense," her father replied as he leaned back in his seat with a small smirk crossing his face.

"What do you mean, dad?" Lara Jean asked as she carefully raised an eyebrow.

What the hell was that supposed to mean? That it made more sense? Please, as if! Sure she may have talked to him recently but only because of the stupid deal Lara Jean made with Ricky. Had it not been for EJ and Nini dating, maybe none of this would have happened. Maybe they would still be drifted apart and maybe —maybe she wouldn't be in this mess, to begin with. If only she wasn't in this mess. Maybe things would have been insanely different.

"Well, weren't you hanging with him like a couple of days ago? You have been speaking about him more now that I think about it," her father added on as he made his way out of his seat, proceeding to place his plate in the sink, rinsing out some of the leftover food and placing the plate in the dishwasher.

"I have? Well, there's a very good explanation for that, dad. You see—"

"—you've been too afraid to tell me that you have a boyfriend. Honey, I'm not intimidating. You know that if Margot was still here, she would be the one asking all the gruelling questions to Ricky. And I'm not like that. So I completely understand why you felt the need to hide your relationship behind my back, but you are going to invite him over to dinner this week. No exceptions there," her father cut her off as he made his way back to the dinner table as a smile was etched on his face.
